Love the strategy! Almost as old as Wounded Duckling (which Alexander the Great used when he was only 16 to lure the defenders away from the walls of Athens at Charonaea, sorry about the spelling). One can imagine the use for inflatable sheep…but I digress. This was the slickest maneuver since the Magnetic Mine Hello in Galaxy Quest.

Delightful chapter! I do hope the other girls are nicer to Osaka, space case and all. Sometimes someone just has the Eye, and you go with them (reminds me of someone who qualified on the .38 her first time around-she'd never shot a gun before, but was the state archery champion of Idaho, or some such). I can shoot reasonably well on the M-4 (prone supported and laser sights are your friend!), but Not Like That.

Oh, splendid! Sounds like the girls have a real machine now. And having Chiyo be the intel portion of the team will work out well-the other teams' intel will be focusing mainly on the actual team members, and may well overlook little Chiyo-chan scuttling about taking mental notes and looking about a harmless as a butterfly.

Mr. Kimura may have gropy hands, but there's nothing wrong with his heart.

You may have heard this a million times by now, but the SU-100 is a four-man tank, and the designation of Radio Operator goes to the Commander of the tank. Even if you take the route of the girls being smaller then the men who normally piloted the tank, you'll still be looking at cramping issues.

Oh, my! This universe is new to me (though I did see Tank Girl with Lori Petty), and it sounds fascinating.

It's good to see you updating this fic again; a part of me had wondered if the match with Saunders was the end, and the tournament would happen in a sequel, if it was written at all.

Unfortunately, this chapter continues with the trend of some characters, especially Miho, not being fully in character.

I can see Shiho being strict with Miho about her grades (although Miho is intelligent and hard-working enough that she should be able to meet Shiho's academic expectations), but not her calling one of her rivals "a cow" (which is only slightly less offensive than calling a woman "a bitch"). Shiho's generally condescending yet civil with those she disagrees with, not showing anger easily or stooping to insults.

Going back to Miho, there are several more problems with her characterization in this chapter.
*Miho is not the type to get "steamed" (even "just a little") over her opponents' provocation.

*I'm not sure what exactly she learned from her mother apart from the fact that the Nishizumi Style is not in line with her personal beliefs. Chapter 6 and 7 of Little Army drive that point home, and Chapter 8 involves Miho taking the first steps toward finding her own way of tankery.

*While Miho would want to win against someone like Maria, it's mainly for the sake of her school and her friends, not to humiliate someone who insulted her. Rather than suggest that she shares her mother's goals, it would be more in character for her to say "I'm glad my mother is rooting for me, even if my reasons for wanting to win are different than hers."

Nonna seems overly temperamental compared to canon. She's canonically the one who keeps Katyusha in line, not one who makes threats against her enemies.

Again, I'm not sure Sakaki's the smartest of the girls from Azumanga Daioh. Even if you don't count Chiyo, it's implied that Yomi does better than she does at school (save for her surprising difficulty in getting into college).

At this point, Maria Tanaka seems like a stereotypically one-note arrogant rival who looks down on the Nishizumis. Considering that her last name sounds Japanese, it's a bit odd for her to be looking down on Japan so much, unless she has a reason that will be revealed later. At the moment, though, there's not much to suggest that she's a very interesting or sympathetic character, although to be honest, most of Oarai's previous opponents weren't developed well or utilized much as anything other than rematch material in this fic.

Incidentally, in Little Army 2, Gilbert's commander tried something similar on Bellwall (the protagonists), only to lose off-panel in a manner reminiscent of Anzio, so psychological warfare means little if you're no good in actual tank combat.

The part in which Osaka discussed the various ways of writing in Japanese was not very believable, since most people don't converse so casually about what, for them, is common knowledge. To a lesser degree, Sakaki's warning against talking about the Spanish Civil War applies (You might notice that Hippo Team mainly makes historical references among themselves, and one could argue that they don't do it among strangers because they're not sure how well they'll be received).

Moving on, some of the more amusing incidents in the chapter, like Yukari-sensei getting banned from driving in Thailand, and what happened to the Kimuras, seemed to be glossed over. This chapter seemed to be oddly divided between getting the main characters to Spain and the tournament in a timely fashion, and showing what happens on the journey there, so if you wanted the latter, perhaps a longer chapter would have worked better.

I understand where you're coming from as far as the tank battles go. Not every GuP fanfic writer plays World of Tanks, and some would argue that they're better off not doing so. All I can say is that you should do what feels right to you, and not feel afraid to get a beta reader if you'd like help with that.

I noticed a few more things on a second reading.

*Saki Maruyama has only spoken once in the anime, to the great surprise of her crewmates. She has never "shouted triumphantly."

*Rabbit Team uses first names on each other, either with "-chan" or without honorifics.

*Going back to the issue of less than in-character behavior by Miho, she's unlikely to deride Kuromorimine as practicing less than fair play, even without specifically naming them. As far as we know, Kuromorimine is devoted to victory, but they're also reasonably honorable. Furthermore, Miho typically doesn't badmouth her opponents, especially not when she used to be a part of Kuromorimine.

*Would Yukari-sensei really accept the argument that her giving the girls pointers on driving would be seen as "interference"? As far as I know, Ami wouldn't see the girls getting extra help that way unless it contradicted her advice or proved detrimental.

*As far as I know, Kagura is, in all likelihood, Kagura's last name, and the same goes for Sakaki. Even if that isn't true, it's unlikely that Kagura happens to share Nyamo's surname.
