Quite an interesting AU you have made in here with Horace POV of things, I would have never thought of him in such a position... though, he is definitely in character by been a coward and not trying to take actions of things, even with such a strong guilt, in order to save those kids. That's Horace for sure. Love the one-shot... I'm definitely understand a bit more the world you have created through this one-shots. Very well done so far.

Ergh, I've always hated Slughorn. Je"s bloody annoying.

Hopefully Slughorn will remember this past guilt and take a more active role the second time around to change the lives of some Slytherins and keep them from joining the Death Eaters. I can't wait to see if Slughorn & Flitwick ever find out that some of the students have their past memories as well. I'm assuming they eventually do.

I absolutely can not wait to see how Slughorn & Flitwick react when Severus first shows up at Hogwarts. Even though they eventually do find out the truth about Severus and his true motives it will be hard to not push aside the memories of him killing Dumbledore and his year as Headmaster. They know that he is (was?) a main catalyst in the war and in defeating Voldemort. We don't know yet if you plan on them knowing that Severus has his memories too, but if they don't know it will definitely be an uncomfortable reunion.

per usual, you write the perfect one shot to fit in the "We Can Begin the World all Over Again" universe. although you don't say it outright, i can feel the guilt that horace feels for not taking an more active role of guiding his House, for not saving those who can be saved. he's fearful of the past (grindelwald) and he's fearful of the future darkness he helped create indirectly (him telling tom riddle of hocurexes).

i love how you describe narcissa - of all the Black sisters' i have always found her the most intriguing and the most dangerous. no one expects anything of the youngest, delicate Black sister, but narcissa proves that she can rule in the shadows not w/brute force, like bellatrix, but with softly spoken words. can you imagine if narcissa was voldemort's most loyal DE? he might have won the war because of killing everyone in sight, narcissa had the gift of, as you so poetically put it, had the gift of changing the hearts of men. scary!

so now we know why horace has come back w/his memories of BEFORE - somehow, the Fates think it is possible for him to save more than one person of Slytherin and salvage the reputation of our House. this one shot makes me want to see him and flitwick in action.
