Where did you get the "come of age at eighty" bit?
Dwarves are fully grown by 40 and are capable of killing Azog's at 32, like Dain had done at Azanulbizar (the battle at the Gates of Moria shown in AUJ). And where 36 year old Balin had been a combatant too ... not to mention the old fart Thorin, around 50 at that time

But otherwise Thorin's Company is a bunch of throw-away society's rejects and Darwin Award candidates whom no dwarf lass had deigned to give a second look.
I cringed at the AUJ quotes ... seen them too many times. And they were already old and stupid when I heard them in the cinema years ago ...
