Reviews for Fairy Without Wings
Xilandia chapter 268 . 5/30
So this is my first review (ever), but I wanted to let you know that I appreciated this fic much more than I did many others. As an avid reader, this is by far the longest fic I have yet to read, and it is definitely up there on my mental tier list of fics. It's not perfect (nothing is), but it's pretty damn good. I love many of your choices of how to integrate code Geass into Fairy Tail, and even though I didn't enjoy the fairy tail anime itself, I did enjoy the world you created. Keep up the great work (both in this fic and in your other ones). I can only ask that you come back to this fic eventually and finish what you started.
EliteOtaku111 chapter 198 . 12/5/2019
This arc was truly amazing, with battles and plot twists at great lentghs. The beginning and ending was awesome, you sure are the man!
Guest chapter 36 . 11/28/2019
Was that a School Days reference? Cause that was really specific
sephiroth12285 chapter 268 . 11/17/2019
Well someone’s daughter is not going to be happy, and somehow I wager END and friends will not survive the arc.

That aside that was a worthy final battle for a Demon King.

On that note I hope Kalina’s escape will work out.
Guest chapter 184 . 11/9/2019
This chapter, was incredible. The fight, well built up, long and pushed Natsu, Erza and Gray to their limits against Nonette. Which each stage, one by one, you build it in a awesome way, beginning to end. I am glad I lived long enough to read this. This is one of my favorite fanfics, and to be honest, I will have a hard time to write a chapter good as this. But you are clearly better. Also, I do look forward to see Mordred as well, plus see what is able to do, and gonna do, with the thoughts you spoke of him. But continue your work my man, and once again, good work.
wondertown9 chapter 267 . 11/6/2019
(Part 2. In relation of Chap 268)
Tartaros' ideas don't make any sense, even when other characters with the same mentality are written to make ALL the sense. Let me explain. It's clear that you write most of Tartaros here as people who have gone through severe emotional trauma and that are now lashing out at the world for hurting them. In their pain, they build an utilitarian, extremist ideology that not only justifies their selfish revenge by proxy against society but that makes it sound that said selfish revenge will, in the end, achieve a "greater good". Ratatosk calls this bullshit almost instantaniously, and (once again, over the paper) that's good. This a Code Geass crossover and Code Geass is, first and foremost, a criticism towards extremism. His argumental fight wuth the 5DD is pretty good due to this, and as he lies dying and Apollo screams if they did the right thing, we are left with a thought-provoking scene that tells us that, even if we are victims of injustice, that doesn't justify everything we do. That our revenge doesn't equal justice. That just because we went through a traumatic event at the hands of terrible people, we cannot extrapolate that to society as a whole. That problems like racism are far more complex than to be solved using violence and killing a bunch of people.
But then I remember that, during the past 250 chapters or so, Tartaros' utilitarian, revenge-driven, kind-of-selfish "me against the world" mentality has been idealized, justified and rewarded... via Lelouch and the Black Knights. They have had the same approach to a criminally corrupt society that Tartaros has to a racist society (granted, at a smaller scale). Except that Lelouch's extremist ideology is portrayed as not only successful, but as the ONLY WAY to solve a social problem like crime, that is as complex as racism, no negative consequences whatsover. So instead of the "lessons" from above, in hindsight this conflict with Tartaros tells me that, when Lelouch (and by extension we, the readers) are being extremist, it's good. When an antagonist is being extremist, that's bad. When Lelouch (and by extension us) hates, that hatred is justified because he's the victim and the people he hates are wrong, dumb, evil or all of them; it's their problem they are hated. When an antagonist like Tartaros hates, they're being strawmen; it's their problem that they are hateful. When Lelouch is bringing down systemic corruption by torturing people to death while laughing it's justified because they were cartoonishly evil monsters and their deaths (somehow) result in less corruption. When Tartaros tries to bring down systemic racism by killing people, they're strawmen and their victims are innocents. So Lelouch and pals being extremists has only positive repercusions but Tartaros being more or less the same kind of extremists has only negative repercusions. Isn't that... protagonist-centered morality? If I'm supposed to be critical with Tartaros' ways, how come I can't be critical with Lulu's? If I'm supposed to find what Tartaros does to cities and guilds horrible, how come I have to perceive the treatment of guilds like Iron Star because they were understandably scared of and angry at Kallen due to her murderous rampages as just? Because she couldn't control herself? How many of Lelouch's targets were insane and not in full control of their actions? If you want me to be critical with extremism, then be critical of all extremism, not only of the one that your main character doesn't indulge in. That's the beauty of canon Code Geass. It gave its audience reasons to cheer for and criticise EVERYONE, including (and especially) Lulu. It gave its viewers the possibility of building their own opinion about the conflict it depicted. But you, sadly, don't. You want to write Tartaros as people with understandable motivations and whatnot, but you don't want to build factual arguments for their cause because that would mean that they make a point, and the antagonists making a point and providing as much of a moral challenge as they provide a physical one is... bad? And the most ironic part of it all is that... Selfishly-revenge driven? Utilitarian extremist ideology built to justify said revenge? Tragic backstory related to the loss of loved ones? Victims of racism but racists on their own? Group of extremelly close friends? Little care for innocent casualties until someone they know is caught in the crossfire? That's canon Lelouch. Tartaros is far more similar to Code Geass' Lelouch and Black Knights than your story's counterparts of them.

Look, I'm not trying to insult you, or discourage you from writing, or to tell you that your story sucks, or that what you do it's trash. It's just... kind of frustrating to read over and over and over and over again how freaking perfect Lelouch's ideology is (there is another mention of it in this very same chapter, for some reason) and to have its and his flaws overlooked (or outright erased), while the ideology of everyone else's that oposses him is treated as extremelly flawed and at some points pointless even though they're no different from Lelouch's own extremism. It doesn't feel right. I don't know.
wondertown9 chapter 268 . 11/6/2019
(Part 1)
First of, welcome back. I was doubtful about the fact that this story was going to continue or not, but it's... good to have it back.

Anyway, this chapter was... I don't know. It was good to get a glimpse of Natsu training, it was fun and heartwarming. The action is superb as always, the final scenes are very emotional and feel earned, and it all is very enjoyable to read. But at the same time, the conflict, lessons and themes you try to build both out and in-universe, in the end, feel kind of... so-so, or even contradictory in hindsight of the rest of the story. I suppose it just cements my like-dislike relationship with this story.

And I'm not telling you this because I'm trying to be mean, or toxic, or to insult you for what you do, or to go "OMG, you didn't do what I wanted you to do, this is laaaaame" type of review or trying to be ungrateful to a man who writes for fun and has gone through several writer's block or through difficulties in his personal life because I know what's that. I'm just... trying to be critical with the stories that I consume, even if they're fanfics.

Now, for the chapter itself in question... There's a difference between telling your readers/fanbase/whatever that a character has a sympathetic motive and backstory and some rethoric (especially if they're villains) and actually making them truly sympathetic/tragic and have a well-argumented ideology.
You tell us, through characters that interact with them, that Tartaros is like a family, that they're tragic, that they're not so different from your typical guild and that they're victims of racism. At the same time this is juxtaposed with them destroying cities, killing countless innocent people, and raping some others. This, instead of giving the reader the image of Tartaros being tragic villains that have been pushed to the villanous role they're in now and left no other option because they live in a society with a racist culture; gives the impresion of Tartaros being a bunch of self-victimized hypocritical terrorists that go "I'm such a tragic figure! Imma blow this orphanage! Tragic figure!" but that nonetheless you want us to understand and somehow empathize with, but that's pretty hard here. Now, on paper there's nothing wrong with this kind of antagonist. Emotionally understandable but not justifiable in their actions. The thing is that this would work if this was a story which's central theme was understanding or forgiveness, or mutual aceptance. But it isn't. The theme of this story is that Murder is the Best solution. Which brings me to my next point...
GeminiFreak000 chapter 268 . 11/6/2019
*casually checks out authors* Oh boy, FWW has finally updated!

*reads chapter*

Well, I guess squirrel demon boi is the big ded

On a slightly more serious note: if this is the point from where it all starts to go apeshit, all-in, balls out... then I am all for it.

There will be blood. Death. Pain. Sorrow and suffering. And in my corner, popcorn!

Keep up the good work.
Goshinzilla chapter 268 . 11/5/2019
Liltotto: Oh right, we were in the middle of reading this wernt we? Well, lets get right into it.
Bambietta: I know how ya feel. Trust me.
Bambietta: Jesus, it's like im watching Ichigo's fight with Ulquiorra all over again.
Hatchwald: Excuse you?
Bambietta: God it's so weird seeing Charles and NOT thinking he's the villian.
Liltotto: War is an action always favored by idiots huh?...Plenty of ways to interpret that.
Bambietta: Oh god no, IT'S A BLITZKREIG! IT'S GONNA BE THE FIRST INVASION OF SOUL SOCIETY ALL OVER AGAIN, ONLY THIS TIME IM ROUTING FOR THE OTHER SIDE!...Fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu-
Bambietta: Wait, so if you KNOW that's one of HER'S...You are aware that this little attack could now quite easily go FUBAR now right? She was willing to fight Acnoloiga for her before...I don't exactly think she'll hesitate for something like this.
PLAY THE MUSIC!
…..You have _any_ idea how hard it is for me to _not_ quote a certain line from Marville right now?
Bambietta: Well, to be fair fire for brains...What your doing right now is _kinda_ proving their fear and hatred of you. Need I remind you what one of your "precious" daugthers did earlier? God, it really IS like looking back at my old life and groaning at all the mistakes I made during it!
No commentary for the fight because im immersed. I will say it's helping me learn how to write future battles.
Bambietta: Oh...shiiiiiiiiit that's bad.
Now THAT was one hell of a fight. Not gonna lie, it's giving me inspiration for a battle i'll have to write down the line.
Bambietta: Aw...Now im sad.

Well, I read one of your's now you can read one of mine. It isn't nearly as long as this anyways.
