I LOVE how you pull together the end of this story... perfect timing for Sherlock to come back and the way you used the light breaking through the clouds and the joy that John felt was perfect.

This was beautiful. I don't know how else to describe it, but it was truly beautiful. I haven't had the opportunity to say that about many fanfics (and I've read A LOT like a lot believe me). How you described the anger stripping away as John stood by the ocean, the never ending waves taking the anger from him, was heartrendingly real. (John's reaction to Sherlock at the end though made me laugh) thank you for sharing this story I appreciate it and I feel better from having read it.

The rage is beautiful and I found myself starting to get angry while I was reading it (but I am more angry at Moffat and Gatiss than Sherlock)! Amen to making John tough; he gets the sentimental treatment far too often. Also, loved the ending. It made me smile and laugh, which was a nice change of pace since so many pieces I have been reading lately are on the sad side.

Beautifully written and I agree with you, John even says in the final scene that he is angry with Sherlock but that's never really explored in most fics. I don't see John as the type to break completely; he is angry and strong and that will get him through the hardest times.
I didn't expect Sherlock to show up at the end but it works so well.

I think this is one of the most beautiful, evocative things I have ever read - not only in this fandom, but in the canon of human writing on loss.

And that little grace note toward the end, "John?"

I was so wrapped up in Watson's journey, that I was as surprized by Sherlock as he was.

Liked the premise... much more interesting than the "John is broken, sob, sob" stuff that I've been reading. What's more, I'd even give your grammar about 9/10. Well, maybe even 9.5 - better than 95% of stuff I read on here - so very refreshing, thanks!

Hmm...I actually thought it was a bit too introspective until the last few paragraphs or so. But the ending was good.
