Reviews for The Tower of Babel
Sophisticated Sage chapter 1 . 4/23
Nicely done!
TheAsianHermioneGranger chapter 1 . 3/11/2019
The monument was a great idea :) Very sad, but touching at the same time :'/
Exceeds Expectations chapter 1 . 2/27/2013
A very poignant piece. The imagery was lovely, especially the statue, and I love that you included Harry/Hermione friendship. So many people ignore their closeness, so this was touching. There is a sort of fragility here, a hopefulness... A lovely post-war moment!

[Harry trailed his hand, tracing over the lion. "I hope this new future is better," he said softly.]

Don't we all, Harry. Don't we all...
our dancing days chapter 1 . 2/25/2013
Oh, this was actually quite sad, in an odd, hopeful kind of way. I can imagine this scene clearly in my mind, which really helped when I was reading through. It was very easy and enjoyable to review; well done! :)
AmzyD chapter 1 . 2/25/2013
CAN I JUST SAY I LOVE YOU RIGHT NOW? SO many people neglect the fact that Harry and Hermione had a beautiful, wonderful friendship! And you show it so greatly here. Brilliant characterisation for both of them too
autumn midnights chapter 1 . 2/23/2013
I can definitely picture there being a monument to all of those who died, and that fits in with my own head canon very well. I like the friendship between Harry and Hermione that you show here, and I like how you kept this completely platonic, since sometimes people either ignore their friendship or have them as a couple. There were a few minor SPaG things, like that over-ruled doesn't need a hyphen in the middle, but nothing particularly distracting. I like how this doesn't really have a specific plot; it's more just a moment in time, and I think there should be more fics like that. I like your description of the monument as well. Nice work!
lowi chapter 1 . 2/21/2013
This was a nice capture of a beautiful moment between these two! I think you've written them both very well, especially Hermione.

I also liked the idea of the statue and the story about it; you described it very well, and I could definitely see such a monument be built after the war.

Great work!
TrueBeliever831 chapter 1 . 2/21/2013
This was very touching. I Love the concept of the monument. It is a good anchor for the survivors, so they never forget... It's very symbolic and a fortification of strength. This was very nice little story and I rather enjoyed reading about Harry and Hermione's thoughts once the war was over. Amazing job. No SPaG mistakes that I noticed and the flow was nice and it was an easy read... great job!
starlight.moon.princess chapter 1 . 2/21/2013
[It was a phoenix, with a snake, lion, badger, and eagle below it. All the creatures were intertwined.] I love the statue, with all it's implications of house unity in the future. And the fact that you gave Tom Riddle Jr a place in the list of names was perfect - a reminder that he was, in many ways, just a plaything of fate. And that Voldemort was not all he was.
It's a beautiful one-shot, especially the hope Harry and Hermione have at the end. However, I'm not sure if the future would work out that way - the way I see it, there's just too much bad blood. So I think the ending is lovely and bittersweet - a perfect place to end.
AnneNevilleReviews chapter 1 . 2/20/2013
I love the image of that statue, with its picture of united houses and the phoenix perched above it all. The concept behind this story is lovely. I think the nicest touch of all is the fact that the monument is dedicated to all who fell, on EITHER side. If there is something I can give concrit on, though, it is style—more than in your other stories (that I've read so far, anyway), you are leaning on telling and describing rather than “showing” the reader what is happening. In a way, considering the tone, it begins to sound a bit like an Aesop's fable with a moral at the end. I think that you could, by “showing” more, avoid that trap. Nevertheless, even if “there is a moral to this story,” in this case it is a GOOD one. Having Tom's name on the monument as well, to show that he was human in the beginning, shows both respect to a suffering boy and an awareness of how easy it could be for that delicately-constructed statue to fall to pieces again.
Montley chapter 1 . 2/20/2013
I really liked this, and I really liked the idea of the monument, it would have been beautiful if it were real. I thought that they were both in character in this one, and it was written very well. Maybe a few more details here and there would have been nice, but I did enjoy reading this story.
It was interesting how you also put Tom's name on the monument, I know why, but it's still interesting to imagine.
Great job!
MindMySimpleSoul chapter 1 . 2/18/2013
A very nice short-and-sweet friendship fic. I loved it. I like the description of the monument and the fact that it listed the name of anyone who died, regardless of affiliation during the war.
Ralinde chapter 1 . 2/14/2013
I'm thinking the title is meant to be ironic, isn't it? Since the Tower of Babel achieved the exact opposite as what this monument aims for. I liked the display of friendship and I absolutely loved the description of the monument! I have a hard imagining a monument myself, but might I just steal this for my headcanon? It was beautiful and so full of symbolism.
ProfessorSquirrell chapter 1 . 2/8/2013
I love love love the idea for the monument. Everything about it was just so great. The phoenix was lovely because I adore everything it symbolizes and I think it's perfect for this situation. And Tom Riddle being included was absolutely perfect. I like the friendship happening here as well. The two of them being that comfortable with each other was sweet and I liked reading it. Nice job!
Fire The Canon chapter 1 . 2/7/2013
This can fit so perfectly into canon, which I love to see. This was beautiful too. I adore the Harry/Hermione friendship. It's amazing how two people can be so close, yet not share romantic feelings with one another. I like it, probably, because all my best friends are male. So I get it!

Anyway, moving on... This was written wonderfully and such a sweet gesture. I loved it. Well done!
