Reviews for The Skipper
Guest chapter 72 . 7/16
I think there might be a typo somewhere in this passage as the numbers don’t quite add up:

Bombur hesitated and then returned to his work. At first, I thought he intended to ignore me, but then Bombur said, "I do not know much more than you. A long time ago, when I was still a dwarf not fully grown, it was said that Thorin would be the King Under the Mountain returned. The journey would begin with the call of a wizard, and the company would number thirteen. If there is more to the prophecy, I have not heard it."

The prophecy seemed to be accurate—thirteen dwarrows and one hobbit made fourteen, though one had to wonder if Thorin had chosen to add a fourteenth member to the Company in order to fulfill the prophecy. And it had been at Gandalf's summons to Bree that had triggered the start of this journey. Still, perhaps Thorin would have started on the road sooner if he hadn't been waiting for the "call of a wizard".

Oh man, that letter is going to extreme feels eventually isn’t it?

Spoilers for the second half:

I bet it was written on Ana’s death bed or something when she’s old and grey having spent her life with Thorin who at some point admits that he loves her (maybe not romantically, but does love her). And the letter is gonna be the last part of the last chapter and it’s gonna be a promise that he will meet her again and that this time she’ll be the one to watch him die instead of the other way around. That’s gonna be a bittersweet re-read for sure. I know you haven’t written that yet but It’s been a long day and I’m crying just thinking about it.

I love how Ana’s “quirky” personality is obviously rooted in trauma and not the usual “so random!” Mary Sue quips. I believe I would eventually act very similarly if I found myself uncontrollably yanked to random places in another world and never staying long enough to deal with the consequences. I would HATE the real world consequence of being thought of as unreliable and missing things. That would absolutely suck. Reliability is one of my defining good points. I follow through and stick with things (sometimes to bad effect since I haven’t had enough experience to know when to quit or call for help. Eg: awful bosses or being chased by a child with a knife during babysitting -true story) Anyway, skipping would absolutely wreck my life and I feel bad for Ana having to deal with it. Middle Earth can also be kind of sucky given the tech level so I don’t think the trade off is terribly desirable.

Anyway, back to my main point: I also like that the characters have reasonable reactions to her words, including annoyance and hate, and that pissing off powerful people has consequences.

Caffeine ADHD meds have got me jacked up right now man, sorry for rambling

Love you

I love seeing the similarities and differences between the refined rewrite and the initial 100 chapter version of this fic. To be honest I’ve forgotten most of the details of that first one, but it still makes me excited for the future!
Another Anna chapter 3 . 7/15
De-reading this for the dozenth time because I love it and always notice new things. I love the hints you set up about Ana’s future.
Guest chapter 2 . 7/14
"Don't worry," I said. "I usually disappear after a while. The longest I've ever stayed in Middle Earth was only a day. Except for this one time—"

Lies! 5 days and nearly starved in the last chapter. Though considering it’s Ana talking it probably doesn’t need to be changed.

Also, I love how despite that experience she never went the “super survival training route.” Very relatable and considering she usually skipped whenever she’s in danger it makes sense why she never really invested any time into it.
Ouhai chapter 87 . 7/14
Please keep updating this story, I’ve been following it for ages! I was so thrilled to see you had updated again. I think I started reading this at least five or six years ago, and every few months I’ll check if there was a new chapter. After this last hiatus I got worried there wouldn’t be any more! I’m so happy you’ve updated again. Can’t wait to continue reading this story.
Guest chapter 87 . 7/14

Lord. I just. Ugly crying I am there. Ugly laughing I am there. My heart has a hole in it because this was so wholesome, so perfectly balanced. You did an AMAZING job. AMAZING. this is my second/third time reading it (book 1 and it’s been a few years) and it has still made me feel as emotional as the first time. Thank you for putting your work out there for us. Thank you for never giving up on it. Thank you for being you! :)
Masimagine chapter 62 . 7/12
Lordy, my heart hurts for her! You do a great job in writing out her frustrations and fears. And also Thorin, he is like OOC but not OOC it’s a side of him we would have known if the tale we knew was not so dreary :) you do amazing keep it up!
masimagine chapter 49 . 7/12

LunaDewdrop chapter 80 . 6/30
Thank you. I'm not great at reviewing but this story is epic. I have truly enjoyed every word. I cant wait to read the other one. I love ana shes great, I especially love how you didn't deviate and make her a standard heroine. I couldn't bear to read the last chapter for days as I didn't want the story to end. One thing that I still wonder why was kili blond?
LiteraryGirl4Ever chapter 87 . 6/28
First off... WELCOME BACK! It took me forever to review I know, but I wanted to reread the whole thing since it’s been over a year since I read it the first time, and now I’m finally finished and let me tell you it was just as good as the first time and I noticed some changes you snuck in here and there... but I digress.
Okay so the learning how to act like a dwarf scenes had me in stitches. Especially the whole penguin waddle thing. XD
It hurt a little to have Ana go home and everything be so changed, but she has chosen Middle Earth, and it’s the choice I would wish for her, even though nothing about it is easy.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! I admit I doubted you when it had been soooooo long, but I won’t do it again.
Now to face Thorin’s wrath!
