Penelope Valentine chapter 1 . 5/6/2019
This was lovely! You nailed Bilbo PERFECTLY with his "Yes, and why not?" comment to Gandalf about the pipe! Thank you so much for writing and sharing this; I really enjoyed it and it made me smile!

Frodo's sister chapter 1 . 9/15/2014
I liked how you described Bilbo's dreams of home, and his opinions about his relatives.
BakerStreetIsLastRefugeOfHope chapter 1 . 5/13/2014
Very well written.
wrmbutnotworm chapter 1 . 3/20/2014
I really liked how Bilbo realized that in truth people are just people. That in the end, we all have the same hopes, the same fears, the same dreams.

LalaithElerrina chapter 1 . 3/29/2013
This story was really good. I liked Thorin showing his nice side in his own way. Over all, it was well done.
TrisakAminawn chapter 1 . 2/14/2013
The timeline warping was endurable, since you can make up much of the thirty years Frodo gains by having the Quest start sooner after the Party, apart from the fact that that would make Frodo *look* fifty instead of thirty-three. But you utterly misused the word 'deign' and I became incapable of taking your Thorin seriously. That is, there came and went from his lines an awkward quality which, when I hit 'deign' being used as a synonym for 'scorn', and without preposition, crossed some tolerance threshold.

(You don't 'deign' anything's 'existence.' You...deign is similar to 'condescend,' except with a more narrow range of application. It implies magnanimity and a certain lofty generosity, though it's rarely used without sarcasm these days, which is probably what led to the confusion.

And it is always used with the preposition 'to.' One deigns /to/ do something. *To* notice, *to* offer assistance, or something or other, and in every case to an inferior. 'The king deigns to show kindness to the burglar.'

As a verb, 'deign' very nearly *requires* both a direct and indirect object. It is an incredibly densely-coded word, which carries with it the implicit statement that the beneficiary, or indirect object, is inferior to the subject of the sentence. It is a word suitable only for flattery and insults, and in our current society of egalitarian feeling, it is now almost impossible to construct a serious compliment involving it, as it has evolved to imply /arrogance/ on the part of the subject, who is understood to /consider/ himself superior without actually being so. If one uses it with oneself as the subject, one is intentionally and blatantly insulting the object and exalting oneself. The more I explain about this word, the cooler it seems, in that its history reflects changing sociological norms about the nature of hierarchy.)

Anyway, your Bilbo's cute, and the importance of pipe-weed was preserved very nicely from the source material. And the attempt to use a pipe as an improvised weapon was nice, but Bilbo's 'Why not?' was the best. Nice character exchange! ;D

Did he have a prophetic dream, just there?
lotus-bugxm9 chapter 1 . 1/6/2013
Cute story!
Rosa Cotton chapter 1 . 1/6/2013
Beautiful. You took me from laughter to heartbreak to content. Well done.
WaxingintheDark chapter 1 . 1/3/2013
I really enjoyed this story. It has a quiet intimacy and depth to it that is very subtle yet powerful. It's also a very good follow-up to the events at the end of the movie and you capture well the growing sense of friendship between Thorin and Bilbo. They are very in-character, and I love their whole conversation and how low-key it is, yet very telling of their personalities and thoughts.

The allusion to Frodo and the parallels to Thorin's relationship to Fili and Kili was also a nice way to connect the characters. I hope you'll write more Hobbit stories in the future!
solisandluna chapter 1 . 1/1/2013
This story is absolutely perfect. You write Bilbo and Thorin wonderfully, you capture their friendship perfectly. Didn't Frodo's parents drown? I know they died somehow, though I can't remember whether it was from drowning. But anyway, the friendship between Bilbo and the dwarves is written perfectly and I love Gandalf's appearance at the end. So yes, absolutely brilliant story. I hope you write me soon!
Northern-Child chapter 1 . 12/30/2012
Hi!
I don't normally review, but I really enjoyed your story.
You accurately protrayed all the characters (personalities were bang on) - at least in my opinion :)
I would say keep writing, even if you are screwing with the timeline a little. You did it well and it's refreshing to read a story that actually shows some thought and is written in the style of the fandom.
Thank you for the lovely story!

chestry007 chapter 1 . 12/29/2012
I have been wading through here looking for a decent fic featuring Bilbo & Thorin for the past hour and just before I gave up in disgust I stumbled upon this.

This was amazing. Thank you.
