good and sad

Your story and writing is so good! It for me fulfills all the checkpoints of an ideal fanfiction: It provides a concise and well thought-out/rounded new storyline based on a previous series, while at the same time making me desperate for an entirely new book series based off of this idea and tone (I would so love to see more HP moments through Snape's POV with him struggling to both understand and intentially misread Harry's situations!).

The only thing I thought may have been useful to add (in part 2) is just around the time Harry explains his reasons for drinking: instead of (or along with) saying he only has a short time left to live, so therefore YOLO, he could have mentioned how he is trying to drown the recent guilt he feels over Sirius and Cedric's deaths. I get how it makes sense that this secret may be too hard to say, but it could support why he's so adamant about the "chosen one" pressure, because if he fails, anyone who died to protect him essentially died for nothing :( , and also it would explain why suddenly he's so focused on his impending doom, like maybe he should die sooner rather than later so no one else gets hurt (in his view).

I just would love to see this not-blinded Snape take that in, because he may be the only person who does NOT try to tell Harry "it's not your fault," since he feels the same way about Lily's death (guilty for having any involvement, even if it was unintentional)!
Needless to say, your writing leaves an impact!

Wow. Just ... wow. This was amazing and I can't believe how well you handled Snape's POV. The change throughout the story is realistic and heart-breaking and -warming at the same time. It's good to finally see someone take Harry's treatment by the Dursleys seriously.

Hmm. The snippets of canon are a bit jumbled up and now I miss the moment where Dumbledore is genuinely surprised by the depth of Snape's feelings; surprised Snape is still getting his inner strength from Lily instead of simply being the obedient Order member and spy.
And of course with Snape, concern comes out as anger. How dare you be reckless, we're counting on you goddammit!

All in all I liked it! (Hence the nitpicking...)

I like it, and they still read IC to me.

I did sometimes think there was a missed opportunity, I mean, Harry has seen Snape's aggressive father during his Occlumency lessons, so can guess or ask Snape has firsthand experience with abusive relatives. Snape sidesteps that subject by talking about being Head of Slytherin instead.
Earlier, when he doesn't want to talk bc he doesn't trust Snape to not tell his Snakes all about Harry's life, he could have made a deal: Snape shuts up about that, Harry doesn't tell the rest of the school what he knows about kid/teen Snape.
Last: didn't Snape already see the Hat suggest Slytherin during Occl lessons?
