Oh my. As a mom I can totally understand why Mary was so on edge and losing her temper. Loved, loved John's reaction to her outbursts and knowing he had to help her but still protect his kids. Which is what he continued to do from here on out. Even though sometimes it was unconventional, that was always his main goal. When Mary took Sam from John and Sam cuddled up to her in forgiveness, that was such a GUH moment. But her realizing his gentleness and forgiving nature at that age was so sweet. And describing Dean's personality as unpredictable, I had to laugh because he is so unpredictable! But Mary's agitation and fear was so real to me as was John. I could see this happening that day because we all know Mary had to have had that loathing fear in the back of her mind for a while. And the way she has acted on her return is like she's so sorry for not being able to protect her family and save them from the life they had to lead because of her. Just a great story. Really made me think of her feelings. Thanks so much!

So glad you finished this fic and you ended it perfectly, especially as Mary has returned in S12. You got totally Mary's state of mind, being on edge even about the pizza delivery guy and snapping a couple of times, worrying John and upsetting her boys. Loved how you had Dean know exactly what Sammy needed, even down to his food and stalling laying the table to play with his little brother to keep him happy. And could so imagine Mary breaking down at the end, knowing what was to come, just hope she joined them in bath time after and read them a bedtime story!

What a mess Mary became after running into the demon at the store. Instead of trying to think about how to protect and ward her house and family, she lost her cool and yelled at her boys. Acting like that wasn't a good way to prepare John to listen to what she needed to tell him, either. It just made it seem as if she was close to having some sort of breakdown, not to mention it was alienating her family. It amazes me that Mary never thought about the demon coming back in ten years to collect on his deal, when he told he would. She really should have known better. Everything DID change that night, in ways she never could have imagined, unfortunately. :(

Your story was great! I really felt that was how Mary must have been feeling that day...there is no way she woudn't have remembered! You did a great job expressing what she was feeling.

Can't say I love having Mary back on the show, but I do love how this story fits. Fantastic chapter. Four year old Dean is so cute and so tuned into Sammy too, the bond between them already strong. He really surprised Mary asking her who scared Sammy and think he surprised John too, alerting him more to what was wrong and what Mary wasn't yet telling him about what happened at the grocery store. And had to smile that Sammy had a stuffed moose toy! Plus Dean at that age already very food orientated! Am really interested in where you are taking this story, such an original idea.

I hope they get a better start in this au than in the series. I love little Dean as the Sammy wisperer.
