This is how it should have been!

I like this because its what I would like to have happened. The only part that doesn’t ring clear is Jack’s response to being told he isn’t wrong. That word only takes on significance when the Docto tells Jack he is wrong. Jack may have been treated badly because of his immortality, but in cannon we don’t have anyone calling him “wrong.” That’s it for my critique. I loved the story.

I wish this had happened, it would have saved a lot of people (including Jack) a lot of suffering. I'd like to think that Jack would have stayed if Ianto'd had a chance to speak to him.

The way things went in canon, I often wonder if Jack would have just had a chat to the Doctor and then chosen to stay if only the Doctor hadn't tried to run away. As it was, Jack had no choice but to cling to the TARDIS in an attempt to get the answers he'd waited so long for. Things could have been so different.

I think you're on the right track with this. So much anguish could have been avoided if Jack would have realized, then, what he really wanted and needed. Of course, then the Master would have destroyed the earth, but oh well.
