I really enjoyed this. Your description of withdrawal is very realistic and clearly well researched. It's a shame John couldn't get his hands on some more Subutex as he could make this a much more plain sailing for Sherlock. Obviously than there would be no story. lol
PBIceCream chapter 1 . 12/3/2013
That was incredible! Your portrayal of John, as well as the situation and friendship between him and Sherlock was nothing short of fantastic, thank you.
CaptainXena-Mation chapter 1 . 10/21/2013

Tealheartleopard chapter 1 . 12/2/2012
This is excellent, why aren't there lots of reviews?! I thought that it was great that you had taken the time to research everything relevant to this, and that research has made this story even better.

Keep up the excellent work!

Just wanted to say, as a nurse, I think it's awesome that you mentioned that John learned a lot of skills from nurses. Especially the IV insertion. I have never known a doc to be good at those. Unless, of course, you're Dr. John Watson, BAMF, who knows how to listen to the nurses. Great job on this story!
Encyclopedia chapter 1 . 11/12/2012
I really love this story, I feel like you did a lot of research in order to do it properly. The only thing I had a problem with was the word flannel you used it many times and through contex I gathered it's meaning in the story. When I live the same word is used for PJ bottoms and nothing else. Isn't that weird?
KlutzyTallDwarf chapter 1 . 9/19/2012
This was a joy to read! I love h/c fics, especially sick! fics. i really like it when "Doctor" John makes an appearance, so that was great. and your fics are always very well researched, but this one was simply amazing. I'm sure your medical vocabulary would impress some doctors. and as always, your characterisation was brilliant. This was a wonderful fic, overall. You are one of my favourite authors, so keep writing! More please!
Curiosity chapter 1 . 8/21/2012
Hello Lady Sam Mellory,

first I want you to tell, that this story is absolutly fabulous.
It is heartbreaking, heart-warming, wonderful, brilliant, full of details, excellent!

And now I want to make a confession
After reading your FanFiction and after my big brother (who studies medicine) came home and talked day and night about detoxification, I had a HELL of a Nightmare about drugs, abuse and detoxification xD

I am the kind of person who writes nightmares down to handle better with them
And I had many deficulties to find the right words, expressions and verbalizations
So *please don't hit me* I copied some of your phrases, words and verbalizations, because I couldn't find the right words
I am so, so sorry and I swear I'll never do it again
I have a horrible conscience about this and I wanted to tell you this

If you say so, I delete the FanFiction right now
It is YOUR FF, not mine
please tell me, if you want me to do it
and please forgive me my horrible action *hit myself*

with regretful regards
Curiosity

Great layout - the splitting up iof the story into time frames really helped, and I liked your attention to detail - such as the celcius and farenheit. Way to go for nurses! :)Thanks, Tabbiecatx
Prothoe chapter 1 . 7/10/2012
This was awesome, just awesome! I'm absolutely addicted to Sherlock-h/c-fics and it was only yesterday that I thought that there hasn't been a great h/c-one shot for quite some time and ta-da! Here it is and it goes straight to my favourite list.
Poor Sherlock - but let's face it: sick!Sherlock plus doctor!John makes the best stories;)

Your story was absolutely gripping. Those days must have felt endless for John and Sherlock but for me time was flying while reading this. It is detailed it, it is heart-warming, it made me breathless and it even has some typical Sherlockian black humour in it. And the characterisations are just brilliant!
John is so gentle (liked the scene were he takes Sherlock's hands) but also stern when necessary ("I will be making the decisions where your health is concerned right now. Do you agree?")
You also portrayed Sherlock perfectly. Still interested in technical devices (like the thermometer) even if he's ill;) Trying to preserve some dignity but also leaving himself to John's bedside manner. And his dry wit like "Something to look forward to," - awww, this is him!

Loved the whole birthday-part and especially these lines: "Thank you," Sherlock whispers gratefully, giving John's hand a firm squeeze.
"Friends protect you," John replies in a hushed whisper, helping him across the room.
Sherlock's expression turns introspective for a moment before he discloses quietly, "Yes, you do."

The "waffles-scene" was cute and hilarious - Sherlock bach to his normal self: consulting five-year-old;)

So, thanks for the ride:) Kudos!
