Oh, this is so heartbreaking to think of Sam trying to reach dean through his soulless self! Considering how much it killed him later on to find out the kinds of things he'd done soulless. I love this. Great idea & great execution!

THIS... IS ... an AWESOME take on things I've had thoughts along the same lines ... BUT ... Part of me thought "Souless" Sam was beginning to feel because he DID tell Dean Season 6 Episode 1 that he didn' t think he would go running to help those people the way Dean did and he DID tell Dean that he NEEDED him ... So Sam DID know SOMETHING was up with himself and he was HONEST with Dean and Dean shot him down.. plus FEAR ... IS an emotion and "Souless" Sam REALLY ... WAS AFRAID to get his soul back ... PLUS think about THIS.. "LITTLE" conundrum ... The blood of his "father" needn't be blood... but also needn't really be his father ... Dean was more Sam's father than EITHER Bobby OR John PLUS Dean DOES ... SHARE Sam's father's blood so Dean would have been a better, moere logical, RATIONAL choice to kill and commit "patricide" and IF Sam wasn't beginning to feel then he would have had no issue with killing Dean and as a TRUE FAN I ... KNOW "Souless" Sam at least must have THOUGHT ABOUT IT... Yet it was Bobby Sam went after... I think Sam COULDN'T bring himself to PERSONALLY physically hurt Dean (and he could HAVE ... SEVERAL times in Season 6 ) EVEN WITH NO SOUL ... he was starting to FEEL ... LOVE and AFFECTION... FOR Dean.. I think "Souless" Sam was more like Cas had once been "Emotionless" "Dick" then he began to FEEL on his own ... YES he WAS confused and he ALMOST did something BAD because of it (Cas was confused at first and Cas did something BAD later) I think "Souless" Sam was beginning to "GROW" a soul and the more he started to FEEL the more tailspinning he did because a Souless person wouldn't have CARED about existing or not it takes someone to FEEL to even be AFRAID of their own mortality.. just one of MANY THEORIES
