I think some fillers would be nice before a time skip. This is an amazing story!

Was that hitsugaya's hyourinmaru? Omg i just love my lil Toshiro.
And Zoro's Shusui, maybe? It reminded me of it, but I ain't sure.

If you want to make people cry, then you have to, for what i know and what has made me cry, make an analysis of the character or characters you are currently basing the moment on, their struggles throughout their lives, what has made them feel bad, what they may have desired they had or just emotional parts or situations where, in the main story, or an hipothetic-could-have-happened-headcannon, you felt like you could feel the charaters emotions like they were your own. For example, Naruto. (omfg if i had to count how many times fics have made me cry because of him... Well ill just say a great amount of tears i left behind in "chance for a prophecy"). If you want to use him to tear up someone, you could use a lot of stuff, like, but not limited to, his lonely chilhood (how he felt when looking at other kids with their families, returning to an orphanage or later an apartment, where nobody welcomed him, how it was being shunned away without even knowing why), the way he doesn't doubt to sacrifice himself, being extremely selfless, in order to protect the ones he loves; and the moment after that, when the saved yells and cries and stuff, and he smiles like nothing is wrong and your heart breaks you know. Or, mmm, when he has these breakdowns and doesn't know what the hell to do with himself and cries and feels like shit... Well you got it. Just use trains of thoughts that resemble one or other aspect mentioned above, coupled with dialogues and facial expressions that match them, sadden up the atmosphere and bam! If you're lucky and word it right, you'll get lots if people with streaming T's down their faces :D
Hope my rant about how i got almost every scar in my heart thanks to these fics helped you somehow, if not, then laugh at my misery
