Goodness how GOOD and accurate this story is! You have their voices down, their antics and their love affair written so perfectly. They were falling in love with each other for years and this last chapter is absolutely wonderful. Thank you for writing it and finishing it (I read your AN) anyway I hope you will be back to writing them again. What a story!

This was beautiful. Especially the last chapter. You gave them enough time to work everything out so nothing seemed rushed. I loved it. This story deserves all the love just like those two idiots.

I loved all abt this story but that last chapter is so perfect. The need of the fight and that damn vulnerability of hers that scares her the most. Ah so perfect! I would dare to shout - more, more, more! Thank you for sharing!

I'm speechless. I'm going to contradict that in a few moments with the rest of this review, but please know that at various points throughout this fic, I almost started crying because this is so perfect. And I'm not exaggerating.
First, it's SO perfect that they don't have a drop of alcohol this time. It's poignant in its own way, and it helps prove to themselves and each other that what they feel is real. Ok. So. Here are all my favorite parts. Actually the entire THING is my favorite part but let's break it down, shall we.
This entire confusion and miscommunication between them-that's it, that's Niles and CC. She thinks his proposals are a big prank, and he thinks she knows he changed the rules without telling her. (Niles is such an idiot I can't handle it.) But I love that she comes back to him and demands that they communicate better-it's up to her at this point, yes, but it still says a hell of a lot that she didn't just leave and stay left.
Yet his disappointment in her that she didn't pick up on his shift is so on point too. They're so in sync for a couple who isn't even really a couple that I can understand him not realizing that SHE doesn't get it, while at the same time she's in disbelief that HE doesn't get it.
The whole thing about Maxwell is handled so well. I'd never really believed that she loved him, but the way you describe it, it makes a lot more sense. And then Niles points out that her behavior doesn't change, and of course: because it annoys Fran and Niles and because Maxwell is clueless. Perfect. (Interesting that Niles's behavior doesn't change when he realizes he loves CC, but that's just Niles for you.)
And I literally had to stop reading and walk away from my laptop for a moment when I read the "why did you ask me, Niles?" "can't I?" exchange. Oh. My. God. So beautiful and yet so heartbreaking. She just doesn't get that he loves her.
Then he explains about the theater thing, and she gets pissed because she's CC, but then he says he did it for her and omg. He thinks she's "just as disenchanted as ever." Poor Niles. Honestly. And then CC tells him she's never been disenchanted with him MY GOD I CAN'T HANDLE THIS.
"Chemistry." And he tells her it never feels like this with anyone else. I have an actual ache in my throat right now that I don't know how to deal with. This is just...amazing. It hurts me.
THEN. Then. He asks how she feels about him? I don't know what it was but I was just so IN it in that moment, I felt like I was Niles, and then you switched it and I felt like I was CC, struggling to explain her feelings. And bless you, truly bless you, for not having CC just say "hey you know I do love you!" because that's just off. But she says she says she's attracted to him ("obviously" I'm crying BUCKETS of tears over here) and it's just so perfect.
Then he asks where she wants it to go and she says she doesn't know and he accepts it because he accepts her (but then he still proposes a little too soon like? slow your roll, Niles) and it's just so beautiful.
"Take it back" I will pay you, Rina, I will truly pay you to continue writing Niles and CC. I mean don't like quit your job or anything because I'm just a grad student but really I bet Kate and I can combine funds because this pains me in its perfection.
From a craft standpoint, I also really enjoyed the timeline countdown that charted Niles's shifting feelings for her. It makes the statement of "in the past two days he'd ruined it all" or something like that all the more dramatic. It really sheds light on the fragility of things, especially Niles and CC's relationship, and it's just so beautiful.
Then the scene where they finally get together and it's so hot but they're still so playful and he calls her baby and sweetheart. ungh. Confession: I have THE softest spot for "baby" and "sweetheart" as terms of endearment so this fic was just meant to be.
Then it's over and CC says, so casually, that she wants more, and Niles can see love suffusing her (I hope that's what you were referring to, even if it's his love that's helping her to appear so much more happy or her love for him idk but it was lovely), and it just makes Niles so much happier than he'd ever imagined. sigh. Now I'm depressed that this is over but never fear, I have some more fics of yours to read and review so there's that.

I suddenly find myself wishing I could read more fics where Niles and CC are drunk together because this was damn funny. Niles looking back to make sure his room isn't a bathroom, them staggering through the halls he's lived in for years to find a bathroom, and then they end up drunkenly making out. "I bet you can't tell, but I'm really, really drunk right now." Perfect. Drunk CC is adorable to me. And of course drunk CC comes on to drunk Niles. Because that's what she'd do. And then their makeout session: hot. But it's still so sweet because even in his drunkenness, Niles knows that they deserve more (even if he ignores it because he's drunk). It's perfect that you don't let anything happen here when they're so wasted that they wouldn't be able to remember it. Sigh.

oh my GOD my love for this couple (and your writing) is more than physically painful. This was PERFECT. What can I say? That she kept her arm linked in his the entire time and whispered insults about other people in his ear? That they tease each other about probably the two most embarrassing things (for them) that they've experienced thus far? That SHE kisses HIM? My God. I don't think I've ever before appreciated how much I love it when CC makes the first move because the more reasonable part of my brain acknowledges that after season 5, it has to be Niles and it has to be a damn good move, but this is season 4 when all was right in the land (or as right as The Nanny ever got for us) and my goodness. Just utter loveliness to be found here.

Possibly my favorite fill-in-the-blanks for the Pen Pals kiss EVER. Your description of why Niles is so disappointed in CC is so perfect-probably something I tried to write but couldn't-and it just supports the rest of this chapter so well because it goes along with Niles's though that "This is the Babcock he likes best" or something along those lines. And of course Niles thinks to himself it's because he knows how to "handle" her, but really, it's his favorite because it's HER. She's being herself for him, as she almost always has been, and he still loves her and is attracted to her and I'm in actual pain over here because of how perfect they are and how well you write them. Actual pain. And THANK YOU for writing that they weren't even that drunk because they sure weren't acting like it. Just an excuse. Love it.

Wow. This was beautiful. It's so important that CC hates the unhappy look on his face and that she decides to change it, and so it's important that she's drunk in this scene, then. Because first, she probably never would have entered the library if she hadn't, and second, she never would have consoled him in literally the only way she could have at that moment. I'm not sure if that made sense, but it does to me, and this is just beautifully crafted. So well done. Maybe it sounds corny but thank you for writing this.

I love this. I hate that CC's ditched again because she always seems to be the laughingstock, but I love how even now, her habits still belie her feelings: she follows Niles when she's miserable because he cheers her up, whatever else she may say. And she rings in the New Year with him. Perfect. This is just written so well that I wanted to pick out some of my favorite lines but just look this entire chapter and know that I am blown away.

If you haven't realized, I'm on a Niles and CC spiral and re-reading/reviewing fics of yours that I haven't read before. I LOVE this idea. It makes me so happy to think that Niles was hanging around CC even from the very beginning, unable to ever leave her alone. Stupid man for taking how many years to figure it out?! And he doesn't want to go back to England because of HER, obviously, GOD GET IT TOGETHER YOU TWO. Well done. Off to chapter 2.
