I loved this episode, even as I bawl my eyes out. Thank you for peeling back the teaching of Dean's brain, trying to come to grips... Bossy Sam was new, but I could see him working hard to keep Dean together and going. And how Dean wondering how to kill Sam... Got chills, Dean realizing just how easy it was to shoot Sam. But things back to Dean taking care of Sam, into an unknown future

Great job filling this in for us. Dean was so quiet then, between his grief and his worry/anger/confusion over his Dad's dying and final orders, but his mind had to be running overtime trying to make sense of things. You slid into his brain nicely. And I like overprotective Sam, just where does Dean think Sam learned that from?

*Long low whistle of admiration* Excellent job here of showing us Dean's turmoil in this awful period in their lives, and second-hand, Sam's too. When I saw this in the show, I was aghast at what a crushing weight John had laid on Dean's shoulders. Horrified that any loving parent would do that to *both* their children. Apprehensive over why John thought he had to give such an impossibly cruel order...

You've done an excellent job here of showing Dean beginning to deal with the fallout of John's single, fateful sentence. You've kept both guys in character and revealed flashes of the psychological underpinnings of both men without trivializing the situation or infantilizing either character. Best of all, you did it with a subtle deftness, not going overly emotional and open- which neither of them are, ever. Bravo, and I'll certainly be looking for more from you!

I really like this. This is one of my favorite episodes ... EVER. How about a John-version of it? :P

I really like this though. You should add another chapter or two. Just, the transition of coping with their father's death or maybe Bobby's POV of how they cope or ... you know. In the end, it's all Winchester love.

Good, solid depiction of the characters. I agree with Dean; Sam in charge is like a bull in the mall; not someone to cross. But Sam in charge is not the natural order of things. I think in some way, Sam thinks so too, since normally he lets Dean have the reigns. I liked how you showed Sam's emotions, simmering under his I'm-in-charge facade. Equally as powerful (and cool) was how Dean read his brother while wrestling with his father's final orders.

John's last few words still sends chills down my back. And yet they make me angry because rather than dealing with the situation when he had the chance, he left it to Dean to deal with.

Anyway, good story. :) Thank you for posting.

If only Dean had been able to see Sam as an adult and an equal partner, he could have told him everything John said and made the adjustment a little easier.
