This was hilarious and so sweet! Wish we could have seen something like this on that episode, it would have been lovely. :)

Just so you know, this is the first Downton fic I've ever read. I just finally got caught up on the series, and didn't want to read any until I'd seen them all. This is great, very in character.

I absolutely adore this, and I think you captured a scene that most of us would've love to have seen included very well indeed. :D

I adored the fact that Bates couldn't keep the smile off his face throughout. He's usually so stoic, so it's great to see the giddier side of his personality showing through here. His musings on wanting a wedding night were perfect, especially with the references to the chances that the two of them have had in the past and him wanting Anna to have more than just a tumble on a cold floor.

I really liked the way you worked Jane into this, too, with her cryptic message that Bates couldn't understand.

Also loved the way that Anna and Bates couldn't stop smiling together even if the house was in mourning and Miss O'Brien being her usual charming self. Anna's way of telling John about the room was also so perfect. Her note really made me laugh with its cheekiness, especially "Attire: Nightclothes optional", haha. Poor John, spilling the coffee all over him. I expect it was worth it in the end. xD And I was half-expecting Mrs. Hughes to get ahold of the note before John had a chance to swipe it up. I can only imagine what her reaction would have been!

The last section was lovely. The first paragraph there warmed my heart no end, seeing John all content with Anna. And then the rest of it happened, and I couldn't stop laughing. A new cologne indeed!

I absolutely adored this and I will definitely be reading and reviewing the rest of your stuff when I get the time to do so! :D

Very cute! Their marriage did not get enough screen time in DA; you've fixed that.

This story was perfect from beginning to end. Like John thinking of Anna and their wedding night, I had a silly smile on my face the entire time I was reading it!

I loved the line, "He was ready to combust." Poor John! Oh, the delicious torment! Anna really is a naughty girl!

Oh my God, this is amazing! I'm in love with this story, really - John's thoughts were hilarious. Naughty boy! :) Anna noticing the smell of coffee was funny too, and her note to him was just so cute. I honestly thought Mrs. Hughes would find out something. Simply brilliant!

Poor John; I hope nothing too important was burned...I love his giddyness, their secret joy in the face of gloom and death, the confusion of Mrs Hughes and Miss O'Brien, and his refusal to roll about in the gardens. I'm not happy about his impending gloom regarding the police, but hey, we all know about that one. But more than anything, you've integrated Hume. My man, and it isn't even my birthday!

SO CUTE! Love it! Definite highlight of my birthday :) I appreciate it beyond belief. Absolutely gorgeous, these kind of adorable scenes is one of the main reasons why we love Mr and Mrs Bates so much xp

the contrast between their moods and the mood in the house is quite endearing. john is constantly being surprised by anna. the coffee cologne is a great touch. nice fun piece to read at the start of the day

Oh how adorable! Definitely one of the scenes I most wish we'd seen.

I love the idea of a distracted Bates, barely able to keep his giddiness under wraps. I really appreciate the acknowledgement that they'd had opportunity and had been tempted over the years, but consciously decided to wait.

Anna is so much fun as she teases him, and she picked a very clever method to convey her message.
