Gracey2887 chapter 25 . 7/23
I believe that you are correct to acknowledge and warn us that there are some racist situations within the story and also that you did try to rein in it for him as a character. I also believe that it is correct not to delete the story because if we delete everything terrible out of the world the next generation will not be able to learn about the problems we had to deal with in our lives and therefore will make the same mistakes that happened before us. Thank you for letting us know.
statetech0 chapter 25 . 7/7
Oddly enough, now I want to go back and read your depictions of Thresh, to analyze exactly how you did it and where the racial insensitivity surfaced.
triojediknights chapter 25 . 7/7
It takes a lot of strength to own up to your portrayal of Thresh. One silver lining might be that if and when we do get to a place of true police reform and a post-racial society, people will read that depiction and place it within a historical literary context specifically and a historical context generally.
WizMonCruWil chapter 25 . 7/7
It is encouraging to see the protests maintaining strength six weeks on. Another Columbus statue went down in….. MA, I think? over the weekend.
Rachewett chapter 25 . 7/3
Thank you for not taking this story down. I think we are all learning a lot about ourselves during the recent events. If things are ever to change we have to start within. It takes a lot of courage to own up your mistakes and try educate yourself and others.

Of course you shouldn't take it down! You worked too hard on it! And you know what? I bet as more readers study this fic and your portrayal of Thresh in the future, it might facilitate even more conversation about racist stereotypes in literature and fandom alike. There's always a silver lining!
StarPotterTwilightHunger chapter 25 . 6/17
I am so proud of you for showing the humility to own up to your error. And thank you so much for not taking it down! I agree, censorship has its own problems.
Katnibellamione chapter 25 . 6/17
I know you were trying your best to honor Southern history and culture, and that most likely you fell into the trap of what the South wants you to believe about its history: that the Lost Cause was about states' rights (it wasn't). It is the most successful revision of events in all of world time. Don't beat yourself up that you were fooled by it.
ClintonBush43Obama chapter 25 . 6/17
It takes a lot of courage to admit a mistake like that. Welcome to the Resistance.

jeannie kaulitz chapter 25 . 6/14
thank you for voicing your concerns about having this conflict within with what you wrote back then and hopefully it may inspire other people who are going through similarly...
your writing of thresh's character back then for me about him being wrote with being a racial caricature went over my head as i was not born in a country with racial conflicts but i thank you for addressing it especially for a character who is written as a black...
also, thank you for not taking it down. i was afraid you may take this story down within a period of time and i may never get back to it when i decide to read it again.
rpattzluvr16 chapter 25 . 6/14
Thank you for your statement and for not removing the story! To know better is to do better. I truly appreciate your words and, while I did initially notice Thresh’s shift, I knew it was not down with malice.
