Reviews for A Long, Long Time Ago
Caver Floyd chapter 1 . 2/16
Interesting tale.
LavenderStorm chapter 1 . 2/4/2018
Liked it! I've often wondered how Obi-Wan allowing Darth Vader to strike him down accomplished much of anything, so your story here explains it quite well. Or at least Obi-Wan's point of view on the whole action-speaks louder-than-words type of lesson, I suppose.
AllHailTheGeek chapter 1 . 3/7/2016
I seldom review your stories, for two reasons: one, that your Obi-Wan has given me an ideal of eloquence which I can aspire to but never attain; and two, that when I try to review, I end up spouting overabundant, unbecoming, and meaningless praise as often as not. Therefore, I shall try to keep said empty accolades to a minimum, but here are some especially striking moments:

"I would not be so impudent as to second-guess the Council, Master"- coming from Qui-Gon. QUI-GON. Who masters the art of second-guessing the Council in years to come. This had me in stitches.

"Eos merely lifted his own weapon in the upright salute and waited"- So perfect and tear-jerking. I was unaware the healers had prescribed me a full dose of ANH feels, yet that is what I got.

The entire last scene- Obi-Wan gets it, Anakin doesn't, and Ahsoka's just sassy (not to mention freezing her montrals off, hilarious "I ain't treatin' frostbitten Togruta" style). You portray every single Master/Padawan relationship SO WELL, in this story and all the rest!

I apologize, Grandmaster. I forget myself. I must say, though, your stories make it rather difficult to keep my emotions under control.

Why, uh, yes, it's a problem, but it's my problem, not yours. I meant anything but disrespect.
Deadaccount565 chapter 1 . 2/18/2016
I have decided that this story is canon. The end.

My heart was shattered at the end. It's depressing to think that in the final moments of his life Obi-Wan hoped that his sacrifice would have a similar impact as that of Eos'. Thank the Force for Luke.

I can't believe how skilled you are-you weave between humour and drama and angst so well and your writing style is simply beautiful.

Thank you.
MuggleCreator chapter 1 . 6/4/2015
Someday indeed. Oh, Force.
So bittersweet & touching.
It makes so. much. sense!
Brievel chapter 1 . 4/14/2015
Now I wonder where Ahsoka got her impertinence...
Newtonsapple chapter 1 . 2/22/2015
The structure is brilliant — I love having more of the story revealed with each generation, so that we gradually come to understand the message just as the padawans themselves do.
Gracie Pearl chapter 1 . 1/30/2015
Oh, that was so sad at the end! And that is why Luke is my favorite character. I really like it when people find a way to connect the trilogies together, especially when it's really subtle like this.
Anon chapter 1 . 5/14/2013
Currently dying of feels.
Book girl fan chapter 1 . 4/10/2013
One day, one day...
TeresaLynne chapter 1 . 4/4/2013
Hmmm... I wonder if Vader did remember this story during the fight with Obi-Wan? It might not have have the effect that he had hoped for, but it could have stirred some memories at least. Those memories could have played a role in what happens later on the second Death Star when Luke throws his saber away during his fight with Vader. After all, it's possible that Obi-Wan or Yoda might have told Luke this story, and he understood what it meant; unlike his father. Seeing that Luke did realize the implications might have helped Vader to finally get his act together. I do wish that the story started with Yoda telling Dooku this story; it would be interesting to see his reaction to it as either a padawan or a young knight. Many thanks for posting this! :)
HyperCaz chapter 1 . 2/16/2013
I really like this... it gives a lot more meaning to the duel in A New Hope. Excellent fic.
time2read chapter 1 . 10/28/2012
great story!
donahermurphy chapter 1 . 1/12/2012
I think the saddest thing about this story is that, for Anakin, the message of the empty cloak still wasn't enough. After twenty years of darkness and all the bitterness between them, Obi-Wan's deaht wasn't enough to prompt Anakin into redemption; he honestly needed Luke for that.

Well, maybe not the saddest thing. The saddest thing is that this story implies that on some level Obi-Wan had HOPE that the act of deliberately giving his own life might spur Anakin into redemption. And it didn't. Anakin maybe didn't even notice.

It's enough to break your heart.

(And now I kind of want a post-RotJ fic, where Anakin, now dead finally GETS it. What Obi-Wan was trying to do. And they both sort of reach out to each other again, after all the mistakes and screw-ups they made in the past.)

But the implications of this fic were amazing and prfoundly hurtful (Poor Obi-Wan. Poor Anakin) all at the same time.
Irene Djo chapter 1 . 1/8/2012
I've never read a story that has anything about Qui-Gon's apprenticeship under Dooku. I really feel like you nailed Dooku's character. Stoic, somewhat harsh, but still a Jedi. Nice.

The contrast between Qui-Gon and his former mentor is great.

Gah. I love it. From Dooku to Ahsoka. Well done.
