Interesting that you put the 'curse' that's said to have jinxed the DADA position in quotation marks. Because there IS no 'curse'. If it WAS a curse it could be broken. It's even a wizarding profession. And Dumbledore even knows a curse breaker AND that curse breaker is somehow loyal to him. It wouldn't have helped for most of the running of the getting-new-teachers-every-year-custom, as William is too young, but he could've had a look during the time of the books.

But Dumbledore himself dabbles in curse-breaking. He overlooked the withering curse on the ring, but he had entered the shack by then, and it is to be expected that Riddle didn't make it too simple to get access to a part of his soul.

And Dumbledore had decades for searching for a 'curse'. Even his three or more full-time jobs should've taken the back seat after educating a whole population in the ability to defend themselves when there's one wizarding war after the other. And if he even has time to hunt down and interrogate a house elf under a death sentence for killing a pureblood...

The second last paragraph would've been much funnier, considering British pureblood customs, if you had cut out four words and replaced two others. Cut out "'s best friend, Luna Lovegood" and replace the last two with "Quidditch talent" or something similar. :-D
