This universe certainly has an interesting air about it. Trade technology with magic? Why not both? XD I'm sure Shishio's just being his selfish again and wants to hoard.

I love the AK history. It's always nice to have friends in high places.. or in the shadows. Where ever is more convenient. That was a fun read! :)

Aside from one more good once-over, this is great. I imagine that this is going to flow pretty smoothly, since you set up everyone in such a way that it wouldn't be hard to keep them in character.

Aoshi and Kaoru don't look any more like potential lovers than Yahiko and Misao, and I wonder who that Shikijo is. Red hair? That wouldn't happen to be an alias for Kenshin, would it? Or is he a random redhead?

Cute! I always enjoy a B/A Kaoru story. And yes, you do leave it wonderfully open for a good Aoshi/Kaoru story, you have then with such a brother/sister vibe at the moment that it shouldn't be hard to introduce Kenshin.
