Good one shot, Even if i dislike Touhou.

Well... that WAS interesting. :o I like how Haruhi thinks in this; I think it captures her well in that even if she really WANTS to believe in it, she still has to fall back on logic and "overcome" it first. Very good for both a character analysis and an interesting crossover.

Satori chapter 1 . 11/5/2012
(replies taken on Spacebattles forums, since my account died)

Yukari is sneaky sneaky sneaky. Gensokyo has shrunk as belief in the wondrous waned. So find a reality warper and make sure she believes. The strongest possible reinforcement.

Haruhi might be a little annoyed when she realizes she's been played. Or maybe not. She does have an acute sense of loss at how she doesn't have the sense of wonder she used to - not that she admits it.
Quizer chapter 1 . 8/9/2011
I like this story. That meeting between Haruhi and Yukari was well done, and that glimpse into Gensokyo really meshes with how I imagine it. I believe 'vibrant' is the word Haruhi was looking for.

You know, I would find a portrayal plausible where Yukari is deathly afraid of Haruhi. The power to directly manipulate reality is one of the few that trumps Yukari's power over boundaries, in my opinion. I certainly wouldn't want to be in Yukari's shoes after she manipulates Haruhi in a less-than-wholesome fashion and gets found out. If Haruhi somehow found her way into Gensokyo on her own initiative, I think Yukari would handle interacting with her a whole lot more delicately.

Koizumi is generally portrayed as the person who treads carefully around Haruhi because he is wary of what she can do, but for Yukari it's an even bigger threat because she isn't used to not being invulnerable and having to act circumspect around others. I think a scenario like that might be interesting to read, too.

In this story however, even though it's never stated anywhere in the story, it still looks like Yukari had her own agenda in meeting with Haruhi. By showing her Gensokyo and making her believe in it, she has done a lot to ensure the stability and continued existence of her realm. If the disbelief of the outside world threatened Gensokyo's existence, that would be just what the doctor ordered, after all. Maybe you didn't even intend that angle at all, but it nevertheless evoked the feeling from me that that may have been one of her reasons.

I would just like to say that I really hope that you do write and show us the continuation crossover that will be the result of this scene.

I've no complaints about your writing style. I'm very, very glad that the "old hag" didn't just blurt out her (full) name, the fact that she's a youkai or the name "Gensokyo" almost immediately like I've seen a lot of Touhou crossovers do. Your pacing of Yukari's dialog feels a lot more natural.

Also, I can't help but recommend that you read "No Interest In Ordinary Humans" by Damien Kellis. It's in the Touhou section.

personally, I think that this looks pretty neat. Remember that even the greatest writers started out as amateurs. You should definitely continue on with this idea as far as you want to go with it.
sesbio chapter 1 . 7/31/2011
Nice story! It works well as a prologue too, if you continue it.

BTW, dont knock your skills, i've read a lot worse all the way through, this piece for your first work is pretty good!
Lemacon chapter 1 . 7/31/2011
This was a refreshing read. It's funny, I'd just PMed Durandall a while back, asking if he would make a Haruhi crossover with Touhou.

Suffice to say, I was pleasantly surprised to see this fic. I liked Haruhi's reaction to Gensokyo (I'm not sure if that's spelled right...) and how she was like an Alice in wonderland.

I have to wonder though, were you on the K:BDH forum recently. It's the only way I can explain this fix popping up, other than it being a planned out

If you're asking if anyone's interested in this, I certainly am looking forward to it. It's an idea that has super potential to be a really good read, if done correctly. Judging how you've written this fic, I have full confidence in you're ability to pull it off.

About that crossover you have planned out, would it be Haruhi-centric? Or Kyon-centric? Maybe both?

Last thing, on Touhou, I'm not familiar at all with it but, would the oni who drinks be Suika? I'm not too confident in my Touhou character knowledge but I have a feeling I'm right, hopefully.

Thanks for the read

dongaro chapter 1 . 7/30/2011
Nice story. i could use a sequel or a bit more expansion but I liked the dialougue in it and the discussion between the two of them. It took me a second to recognize Yukari from Touhou Project.

Anyways nice story.
kittle-uk chapter 1 . 7/30/2011
Don't knock your writing skills. That was a good story, especially for a first one. I, for one, would really like to see where this story could go. I think the way you had Yukari pushing Haruhi towards developing her powers and focusing on her beliefs without really spelling out what she could do was quite well done. Deffinately worth a sequel.
