I love this.

Poor baby Kurt. All he wanted to do was bake a cake for Mollie, and he was actually doing a good job of it until he forgot the oven mitts. Ouch. I'm not surprised that all the stress got to him, but I love that Burt arrived and calmed him down and snuggled him until he felt better. The fact that he had to ask for a hug was heartbreaking. It's clear that Burt wasn't really mad at him, but it's easy to see why Kurt would interpret his surprise that way, considering the rules he had broken along the way making the cake. I love how expeditious little Kurt is, making his way around the kitchen and pouring the ingredients together with the natural ease he displays when he's older. It's wonderful that Mollie introduced him to cooking so young. (Not to mention it probably spared Burt and he from a lot of take out later on.)

The museum visit was beautiful. I've always loved the pacing in your stories, and this one was flawless. The way that they dine under the painting is sweet, and just the way that they pay tribute to Mollie by visiting the museum and eating her favorite cake was lovely. The originality of your pieces never ceases to amaze me, and I adore the way you write baby Kurt. And Burt. Burt still deserves the Father of the Century award.

All of my tears for Kurt and Burt trying to cope with Mollie's death. ;_; I teared up reading this and the floodgates opened as soon as Kurt burned his little fingers. Poor little bb!Kurt! Your Burt is always so amazing, Mama Cake Pop! He's trying to stay strong and tough on the outside, but it's so obvious with these small gestures that he simply adores his son.

Okay, I have tears running down my face, and I NEVER cry. This is just heartbreakingly beautiful and your imagery is stunning- for instance, even the thought of tiny Kurt struggling to balance the mixing bowl between his "narrow knees" absolutely made me smile! Then, when he burned his hand, all I wanted to do was sweep him into my arms, kiss his little fingers, and tell him that everything is going to be okay. You wrote little Kurt with such an innocent sweetness, empathy, and honesty, and Burt with his seemingly tough exterior, but he obviously loves his son more than anything in the world. Congratulations; this could easily be the next flashback scene on the show.

This is beautiful and adorable.

I absolutely adore this. Every single thing about it. From Kurt's determination, to Burt's comforting, to their quiet trip to the museum, to their cake-eating under a painting... all of it is so sweet and heartbreaking in the very best way. I can honestly see this as a flashback in the series. I can only hope the writers will handle the story behind Kurt's mother as masterfully as you've done with Mollie.
