Just because they haven't thought of it doesn't mean that there IS no possibility to get more than seven to play quidditch.

A league has six games per year. What about three leagues? The first- and second-years, the third- and fourth-years, and the seniors with two year-groups having the important exams. Each team with a complete second string for the training sessions and for reserves. That's forty-two per house instead of twenty-eight in all. And eighteen out of about forty to forty-five weekends per school year for matches. That should be easily manageable. And everyone would play within their own age-group. No more firsty seekers against seventh-year beaters.

Only then Hooch must give each team a fixed training schedule, and if they can't play - pity. There could be no "I, the fucking chemistry teacher, commandeer the facilities I have no say about to give my team more training time to the detriment of every other team. Fuck them all. And if you don't like it I just take over referee as well, despite not having a referee licence. And it will be RAINING penalties against the team I like least." For the mere attempt all of his teams would have to be suspended.

And no "Get up, you lazy pigs, it's 4.15 h already, I have a strategy session planned until breakfast and directly after classes we practice until it's too dark to see our hands before our eyes, then we light a few candles and play until you fall off your brooms from fatigue. And tomorrow and every day after we do the same! Sleep is for weaklings!" either. Such a captain would get his badge pulled faster than he could say "But I need to be seen by scouts to play professional..."

Oh, and every team would have to hold try-outs every year for every position.

By the way that would be twenty-four players graduating per year instead of four. And the eleven quidditch league teams could finally get British newcomers to replace their retired players.

However, the indoor training is still a very good idea. With three teams per house it'd benefit even more students. And as soon as the quidditch player prove to be better in classes because of "Magicka sana in corpore sano" physical exercise will be a lot more popular, perhaps even with purebloods.

To be self-sufficient you don't just need to keep a couple cows or pigs. You can't eat a cow or a pig. Because they wouldn't like it if someone took out a bite. You need to transfer them from a state of "alive" into a state of "Schnitzel". If there's a slaughterhouse where trained personnel do that for you, okay. If not, well, you can't just order a Lavender Brown or a Pansy Parkinson to kill a pig, far less expect her to know how it is done. Throwing a killing curse at it doesn't work, not to mention cutting it up once it's dead. When I was young and foolish I did a complete course of two-and-a-half years of vocational training as a butcher, as a journeyman I'm quite sure I know what I'm talking about. You're a German as well, you know our apprenticeship system.

So, you'd need personnel, dunno if elves could do that, and you'd need the facilities, even if you stop at slice or dice. Being able to produce your own bangers for your mash needs even more facilities and equipment.

And even producing your own corn doesn't translate into having toast for breakfast. You'd need your own mill. Although kitchen elves could take over from there, baking bread shouldn't be that huge a problem once you have flour.

And you still don't have milk or butter or cream or cheese. Just a bucket for milking doesn't do. Okay, unlike other people (of those few who have ever tried it) I hate the taste of fresh milk, but you'd still need a dairy for everything else. At least the facilities if the elves can do even that.

Self-sufficiency is a fine concept, and not new in HP fanfiction. But it needs a lot capital to get started, and you need the people to do the work. Students can't produce food, not even at the field or pasture stage, they can only help out as gophers.

You can do what you want, it's fanfiction after all, but in canon they did not find Riddle's wand at the Potters'. Because Peter had it to give it to Riddle after his resurrection. And it WAS Riddle's original wand because only that one could have produced the golden cage effect with only Harry's wand. Rats ARE good at breaking and entering, and Pettigrew PROVED to be a capable wizard, but I'd expect that wand to be secured extra tightly in the DMLE, beyond Pettigrew's reach. If they had found it of course.
