First off, let me say I know it's been a while since you've written for this story and I completely understand if you're no longer interested in this universe - it happens, and as a fanfic writer, I've been there. Let me also say that if you ever *do* return to this story, there will be endless rejoicing on my end because you've completely got me (body and soul) hooked on this world and Ella's journey.

You've always been one of my favorite writers, and when you first posted this story, I was intrigued enough to watch Dick Tracy myself, so first and foremost, thank you for being my introduction into that world, it's been an incredible experience. I've always had a passion for the 1930's, and to read a story written by someone like yourself who also has an obvious love for it is such a joy. You capture both the beauty of the era and the incredible darkness of it as well - it's such a gem, and you capture every facet.

Ella is such an amazing character, and I really want to commend you for how you write her. She's so realistic, so painfully young and naive. Many has been the time I wanted to reach through the screen both to hug her and to grab her arm and hiss in her ear, "honey, DON'T." This whole story is really such a love letter to her discovering more and more, both of herself and of the world, from how she realizes how her upbringing has given her some biases to her moral quandary in regards to the fact that the man she's so desperately attracted to does horrible, horrible things and doesn't regret them one bit. She has such a fragility to her, and yet she's also undeniably a survivor, and even with all the times she's put her foot in it, she also displays so much insight. You want to root for her in her relationship with Flattop, but you also want to warn her. I seriously cannot sing your praises enough in your creation and writing of her.

And then there's how you write Flattop. Good God, I am *so* impressed with how you write Flattop. He's hard and cool and unflappable and merciless, and you've never glossed over just what a monster he is/can be. And yet you perfectly capture his appeal, just *why* Ella is so attracted to him, for better or worse. And the times when we get to see those tiny flickers behind that cool and calm front...it's absolutely addicting. That scene where he and Itchy catch Freddy assaulting Ella, and you write how his voice is flat when he addresses Freddy...it's such a small detail, but the reader *knows* he knows what's been going down, and he's fucking furious. I love it.

Honestly, it's just as fascinating to see how Flattop handles this relationship as it is to see Ella handle it. He's obviously attracted to her and her beauty, even with all the times her naiveté wears at him, and that scene when he tells her he doesn't want to hurt her with obvious sincerity (even though you get the Big Red Flag over how he ends it with "so don't make me", such a classic abusive tactic)...you really do start to see that there's something more than just plain lust there. I imagine that for all his worldliness, Flattop gets a kick out of corrupting and seducing (and honestly, educating) such an innocent gal like Ella. I would also bet that as well as all that, he's genuinely protective of her - most of it may come from Ella being *his* and not wanting anyone else to touch "his property", but then you get the aforementioned scene with Freddy and then how he smooths out Ella's hair after Big Boy messes it up (BRILLIANT SCENE, by the way - I love how Flattop, so cool and collected, has so much contempt for Big Boy's grandiose airs). All in all, I want to believe Dolores just as much as Ella does, that Flattop harbors some genuine feelings for her, but at the same time, Flattop is Flattop - he's not gonna give anything away.
