Despite spelling errors and the odd speech, I really liked this and was saddened to find you haven't updated in close to two years. Naturally I have works that I haven't touched in at least five but I'm hoping you'll pick this up again soon. Though I wish the chapters were longer (a pet peeve and a personal standard), I really want to see how this ends and where it goes. You've done a good job at recreating Saito and I commend you for that.

You have kept Saitou mostly in characters. You have slipped some terms, such as stew or planet Earth, which would be out of place and time, but it's easily overlooked. Still, you might want to pay some attention in the future.

Are you still interested in info about Saitou's character? I have finished all of games and know enough Japanese to get the point. About "reserved, polite, intelligent", he IS very polite and very well-mannered. About intelligent...he is not stupid. But neither is he the one to do much intellectual work - that's Hijikata's and Sannan's domain. "Wise" would describe him better, in most cases.

However, the official basic description in Japanese always contains words "silent, lone wolf, extremely shy". He is reserved and taciturn because he doesn't feel comfortable around people. Rather than blush and stutter, he clams up. "Awkward" is another often-used term (socially awkward, that is). He often calls himself "unrefined" as well, and is not the one to tell amusing stories and cheer people up. He avoids lying most of the time. He follows what he thinks is true, and stays true to his heart - even if it diverges from what Hijikata says.

As far as his relationship with Chizuru goes, he is mostly in denial. In an extra story from his POV, he claims that he is merely helping Chizuru because he's ordered so, it's nothing personal, and that her positive attitude is admirable has nothing to do with it...to himself. Rather vehemently. I'd recommend watching Saitou's Sekkaroku OVA episode to get the feel of how his feelings for Chizuru are (not)expressed.

But I guess your reasoning could work too, as in he decided to give up on simple denial and try to find reasons why not to get close to Chizuru...

this chapter was so deep in understanding.. that was great.. we learnt a lot about the characters' thoughts and point of views..

and u described how wise Chizuru was.. she seemed a lot mature.. and that was a good thing.. it envisioned that she was indeed strong in her own way :)

Somehow it's hard to read only Okita and not Okita-san or Saitou instead of Saitou-san like it is most so written in other stories!
