I'm gonna start off by saying, I don't think this review will be thoughtful at all. It's gonna be full-blown emotional reactions. Also, any negative reactions? Purely directed at characters. You're writing this story masterfully, playing on the crew's individual psyches and laying out a well-researched and believable story.

I get why Zoro wants to hide everything: because he's designated himself the protector and by giving in under torture, he feels like he's betrayed them. I get that, okay? I do.

BUT FOR GOD'S SAKE, DON'T HIDE FROM YOUR CREW THAT A BOUNTY HUNTER IS AFTER THEM! ESPECIALLY ONE THAT YOU'RE TERRIFIED OF! What, you think that doing the self-sacrificial thing will save them?! Do you?! When you heard DIRECTLY FROM HIS MOUTH that he's chasing your COMBINED bounties? You think he'll be satisfied with little old you after the info dump you gave him?! *aggressively spoons soup to Zoro so he gets better*

AND YOU, SANJI! Great, Zoro's starvation thing is pulling at your minimally existent heartstrings for the guys in your crew. Fantastic! I approve. But how about, instead of letting that pull you into this frantic "protect Zoro!" mindset you're in, use that strategic brain you've shown us a time or two and point out that if this crazy man drilled Zoro for all that info, THERE'S NO WAY HE'LL LEAVE THEM IN PEACE! (Wait, no, don't do that, nevermind, bad idea, fragile Zoro, carry on.)

OK, don't mention in to Zoro, it'll spin him into a downward spiral. But please, for all your sakes, just... pretend he's coming after you immediately!

... Wait, he...already did that...

Gah, this tension is getting to me. And I hate secrets, and lack of communication because secrets save feelings but hurt people.

OH WAIT! THERE IS ANOTHER THING!

HOW HARD, I ask you, WOULD IT BE TO SIT LUFFY DOWN AND EXPLAIN THAT EXTRA FOOD BEYOND STRICT RATIONS WILL KILL ZORO. Not hard! You have history here; you know, YOU KNOW, as soon as you turn your back, Luffy will be offering up platters of meat or barrels of sake. Just... sit down, ask, Luffy do you trust me, as you did here, with this secret thing, and he'll say yes. I know this will be hard for you, you'll say, but we can't feed Zoro extra. Even if he asks. He will die. If you feed him, he will die. Got that? So simple! Avoids a night full of angst and near death experiences! Every one is better for it!

But no, go ahead, assume your captain is too stupid to understand and risk it. *full-on throttling Sanji because he won't fight back* OH LOOK, YOU LOST ON YOUR BET YOU STUPID -

I...Honestly, I hadn't planned on writing this review. I planned to read straight through and comment at the end, but the sheer idiocy of this crew is blowing my mind. I think I iterated it somewhere, but I loathe miscommunication or lack of communication trope with a passion, but you're entwining it so splendidly with psychological and physical damage and the urge to protect a nakama, even from themself. It's really moving.

This is a fantastic story, and I was on the edge of my seat for the entirety of it! You did an amazing job describing and explaining/showing how *desperate* everything was, and just how close to the wire they got! Very, very well done! Thank you so much for writing and sharing this story!

I know this fic is nearly a decade old and I don’t know if you pay attention to this account anymore, but being that I’ve just gotten back into One Piece because I’m introducing it to my sister, I wanted to say that you did such a wonderful job with this piece! The characters are perfect and the story was amazing! I felt the the desperation and the suspense. I also loved the camaraderie btw Sanji and Zoro! I love them both and felt you did them such justice! It was so nice to see a good friendship fic! Thank you for all your hardwork! I’m a huge fan of your Batman fics too!

Not sure if anyone has said this before but the reason for the earrings is cause he mastered the 3 sword style, each earring is a sword hince the shape. He wears it as proof. 3 swords, 3 earrings. Also earring holes don't close up from non use. As a kid i was pierced and was made to wear them till i was 10. The earring holes are still present and I'm almost 30 now.

Wonderful fic, it's the only Zoro sanji fic that caught my attention and kept me. You did what i want most writers to do. Research. I hope you are happy and healthy in this new year and this story left me satisfied. Unlike most it was actually completed and wasn't illogical and stayed on point. Keep writing
