Reviews for Their Last Escape
Reptaliator chapter 26 . 7/8
Damn, you really did Tyrell like that? Shit...I know he's a different person in the original but I was hoping to see some character development. Also he really is back. Nikolai the scumbag, HUNK please perform a neckbreaker on this man! Also I loved the insight fullness HUNK delivered about love, hopefully Carlos will use it if he manages to make it out of this mess. And I gotta agree with Carlos, on paper HUNK may not be a soldier, but he's basically a super hero. Sure his motives could use some fixing but Marvel please hire this man!
evolution-500 chapter 26 . 7/7
I have to say, I am impressed by the amount of detail you put into your characters and settings. I'm very curious as to your sources of inspiration. A couple of grammatical errors here and there. I like the exchanges in dialogue, and Hunk's comments about love really seems like Valentine is bringing more of him out from his armored shell. Looking good.
Rock992 chapter 26 . 7/7
What can I say? Just keeps getting better and better. Though that reveal at the end is pretty good, Hunk and carlos probably won't willingly work with nikolai as he stabbed them in the back before. I was interested about Hunks opinion on taking US soldiers lives as I imagine he's probably American himself. If you've ever played spec ops the line I'd imagine it would be along the lines of that if he encountered US soldiers. I already see a rivalry between Hunk and nikolai as I'd imagine the only difference between them is that Hunk isn't a monitor if you think about it. They both are willing to do whatever it takes to complete a mission. They couldn't care less if they killed someone as it's part of the mission, willing to take the lives of their teammates for the mission like with goblin six. And they're both good in the art of violence. And they're both incredibly buff though I would like to think Hunk is the jay Cutler of the resident evil universe (he is a bodybuilder btw.) No wonder doctor radames likes to do lots of "medical check ups" on HUNK if you get my jist. I think Hunk sees Carlos as a reflection of himself and how he used to perceive war as. Hunks respect for carlos is now mutual as he has a glimpse of the former person he was before war left. I'd like to think that war left him because after every mission and the more he killed he became more and more desensitized losing the man she loved in the process, he became the very thing she wanted him to be but she was too attached to the man he was before. Hunk lives up to his name literally and figuratively due to how resilient and uncompromising he is in the face of Hell and instead stares back into the endless void, grinning back at the face of the devil itself, umbrella. Great chapter and hope to see more!
Arkham Knight chapter 26 . 7/7
Nikolai is back. Was wondering when we see that prick face again. Really like how you focused on Hunk and Carlos there so different but work well together. Hunk giving love advice that’s something I didn’t expect. You write well on how Hunk you reveal much of Hunk but there still so much mystery to him. Maybe you can convince Capcom to final make a video game base on Hunk alone. Great chapter.
Akira-Hayama chapter 26 . 7/7
Never thought I would ever need a Hunk and Carlos interaction, but I’m happy it’s a thing in this story. It’s just so interesting how opposite they are to one another, yet they have that camaraderie with each other that they also work well together. I suppose it does help they have the same goal(s) too.

In a way, Carlos is like Hunk, or who Hunk was before he went through all the shit he did. It’s just that the former is practically going through all the shit Hunk did in a couple of days compared to a lifetime of experience. So I’d like to think he’s sorta like a mentor right now to Carlos, however much it doesn’t seem like it. I think Hunk has been begun to change enough to a point where he wouldn’t just leave Carlos to compete a mission. And to the fact Jill would probably do something about it, lol. She’s got him wrapped around her fingers, he just doesn’t know how much.

We’re also learning more lore about Hunk’s past too, which is always an added bonus. An interesting concept to have Spencer and Bella having bonded over such trivial things like puzzles, yet also have such an impact as well to the point Spencer started incorporating them into his security. In a way, that explanation makes sense than rather it being, ‘why the hell is their a puzzle for a door instead of a bloody key?’. Always did make me question why they’d have something so inconvenient for a place that’s meant to be highly secured.

I was already aware of the US Military being involved, but it’s still interesting nonetheless to have them appearing, even if the ones they stumbled upon are dead. Makes me curious if you’ll be adding the Spec Ops Field Unit somewhere down the line, however much people didn’t really enjoy that Resident Evil game.

Another thing is how you’re able to capture the atmosphere of any situation they’re undergoing. There’s that sense of horror, as well as tension whenever the characters go through a new room or location. Especially here from Hunk and Carlos, from the clock tower to their journey to the hospital; really giving them horror movie hospital vibes, lol.

And oof. That question from Carlos was a heavyweight one. Think it’s obvious that Hunk was speaking from experience in his answer, and I’m sure Carlos being surprised won’t be the last. It’s like when you think you know everything about the person, they bring out something new, and that’s what I’m loving about Hunk’s character in this story. And with his character, it’s kinda ironic(?) how Carlos and Hunk have sort of switched, with the former maybe thinking of letting Jill die in order to save many more with the vaccine, and the latter at a crossroad on what he wants to do when the times comes.

And lo and behold, Nikolai makes his reappearance. This will definitely be an interesting encounter, especially for Carlos. Kinda hoping they’d just shoot and kill him, but that seems way too simple for a game like Resident Evil and a story like this one. Either way, that’s definitely a cliffhanger to leave it at, so excited to see the outcome.

Great chapter overall. Till next time!
Reptaliator chapter 25 . 6/26
Wow excellent chapter. I love how you said HUNK appreciates good music, women, and weapons. Speaking of which, how does HUNK attract so many? We got Jill, Bella, Doctor Radames, and Fly Girl! Also I'm dissapointed HUNK didn't show his face to Jill. It would have been kinda corny but i figured "Hey, if Carlos got to see him Jill definitely deserved to." Also one minor detail, why does HUNK have the Matilda? Last I checked that was Leon's personal handgun and it kinda sucks in-game, and it's trash in real life. Unless you add the stock, which kinda redeems some of its flaws. Finally, I wonder what was your basis for HUNK's and Nighthawk's relationship? I certainly think your version is the best, they're both professional but still respect each other. In the remake Nighthawk was a fanboy, which is alright I guess. In the original I thought they got along, until I came across a letter that showed Nighthawk actually resented Mr. Death for always being the sole survivor, and HUNK was just like "Yeah whatever stupid pilot, the death cannot die." Anyways take care, and I pray they find that vaccine. And when Nikolai returns (because ain't no damn way that bastard actually died this early), he gets properly dealt with.
Nightroad816 chapter 25 . 6/25
i didnt know that Carla has a her eyes on HUNK...she mostly obsessed Derick Simmons since she forced herself to become Ada for him
ACuriousCat chapter 25 . 6/25
At the part were HUNK is perusing a particular document written by Dr. Nathaniel Bard, is 'Director Ethan' a reference to the main character in RE7? You just have to leave out the last name in order to got me thinking. (lol)

I'm kind of confused with the resident evil timeline, seeing as i only got recently intrigued in the franchise when i happen to stumble upon this awesome story. If you don't mind me asking, and pardon for my ignorance, but can i ask when did RE7 fit into your story? Did it already occured or would you consider it non-canon in your narrative?

I also hope that you include a rather touching scene later in the story. A scene where HUNK is acknowledging the efforts that Carlos made, no matter how incompetent he may seems. I just want to thank Carlos properly (In a hunkish way that we all knew and loved) I mean, Carlos carried them both because he is afraid that he may left one susceptible for the infected horde, he tend to their wounds and protected them for almost 2 days. I mean, this chapter displays his concern for jill A LOT. So why not let him show some love for Carlos that goes way beyond just letting him have time to enjoy his meal?

A great, lenghty chapter that made up for all the days that you have me waiting hehehe. I distinctly recall the time were you upload next chapter every 3 days, now it almost took you a week (im not complaining, just giving my honest observation because no one has ponited it out yet) Although i can't help but wonder if there is going to be a sequel to this fanfic. If there is, then count me in!
Arkham Knight chapter 25 . 6/25
Oh this has to be my favorite chapter. So much was given in how Hunk views Umbrella and himself. Really like how you are given the villains of Umbrella personality. There no just evil for the sake of evil but each have their agenda. I always felt that Resident evil could also be a very driven story and not just action and horror. Looks like Leon, Claire and Sherry have escaped and destroy nest. Really also like how you have Jill make a team such as the reporter who appear in the series. Even Rodriguez who I think was in outbreak. Great job.
cipher66 chapter 25 . 6/25
Nice to read some reference to forgotten games like the Survivor from ps1 and others like the Outbreak series, just the other day we where playing with some friends file #2's "End of The Road", Nyx wrecked us BAD xD
Guest chapter 25 . 6/24
God I love this story. A few things, Jill's Beretta is not tinted blue as a color choice more a result of the bluing treatment it received to prevent corrosion. Bluing was very common for firearms back then, other treatments at the time were Inox steel, Parkerizing and TiN. Inox is a form stainless steel most used by Beretta, and leaves a firearm shiney and chrome/silver looking. Parkerizing generally leaves a firearm a dull/matte black or dark grey. TiN mostly used in barrels and chambers leaves them a glossy good coloring.

Another thing I noticed is that HUNK here is like Snake from MGS3, he has a whole support he contacts for various needs. NIGHTHAWK is Zero, QUARTERMASTER is SigInt, Doctor Radames is Paramedic, WAR could be the Boss, and Eva. Honestly I like it a lot because it further HUNK is human he doesn't know it all and needs other's expertise. Helps keep it grounded,.well as ground a RE story could be.
LuckyNumber1 chapter 25 . 6/24
The whole time I was reading this chapter I kept wondering why the song “don’t fear the reaper” was playing in my head. I thought maybe I was just randomly remembering it as Hunk’s moniker within Umbrella is the reaper. But then I got to the end of it and Carlos mumbles “don’t fear the reaper” and I was like, I knew it, this whole chapter was written out to the song, “Don’t Fear The Reaper” And now after I write this I am going to go listen to it again, because I miss the song lmao. Also, ha, I love the doctor’s snark, “i’m good at figuring out people... especially men who keep auditioning for the role of statues!” Haha, not exactly the saying, as I am on mobile and am to lazy to go search for the actual phrase, but this killed me. I died. No joke, the best thing to take out of this whole chapter was just that one line. Very fitting, for Hunk, lmao.
Nitus chapter 25 . 6/24
You know, there's also some parallels to be made between HUNK and Big Boss. Both are legends on the battlefield in their own right, their true being overshadowed by said legend wherever they go, always finding themselves thrown into battles that aren't entirely their own, both filled with trauma from their experiences and what they've been made to do. They're both great characters honestly, it's one of the character types I most enjoy seeing get developed. You've been doing a wonderful job with HUNK, keep it up champ.
Rock992 chapter 25 . 6/24
I remember reading your first chapter and I thought is was good but it doesn't come close to your quality of fanfiction now. I'm glad I stumbled upon the good fanfictions in the re community. Like your reference to blue oyster cult though I think veteran of the physic wars also work too or burning for you. Hunk reminds me of the t800 terminator form terminator 2 with his arc. Hunk also looking like Arnold Schwarzenegger in terms of physique also helps too. Carlos in some ways reminds me of joker from full metal Jacket with the story reminding me of the last of us (not the garbage sequel btw) with Hunk and jill. I'd like to know your thoughts on the game as I think it's a 4 out of ten what do you think? As for RE8 they really need to stop having Ethan as the main character and dig up some old characters like hunk who haven't been explored properly instead of making shitty new characters and turning previously loved ones into edgy ripoffs. Like seriously who gives one about Ethan, he is a very bland character with no defining traits unlike Chris, leon and jill. Anyway another increase in quality of work and mostly good spelling. Until your next chapter!
Akira-Hayama chapter 25 . 6/24
Amazes me how much Hunk has progressed as a person in this story. At the beginning, he wouldn’t have hesitated to kill Jill, whether it be a mercy killing, or just getting in the way of his mission. But she’s interfered with his way of thinking that much, he now hesitates to do something that would, in a way, be helping her. You’ve really managed to turn a character, who’s role was essentially just extra in canon, into such a complicated, yet compelling character. So kudos for that.

It also seems that Bella was very much a big reason as to why Hunk is the way he is now. It’s an interesting concept, how Hunk began as a naive boy, who was slowly manipulated; whether for his own good or not, to become who he is. Granted, he had to change himself too in order to survive his line of work, so the idea is an intriguing one. We also seem to be learning more of her too, with that examination moment from Hunk. When he picked up the picture of Mikhail and his family, was that a hint after she left him, she had a family of her own? Would make sense as to why he’d turn away from the image so quickly.

Also liked how you’ve added more detail into Jill’s background, such as her race. Can’t remember if it was hinted in the previous chapters. Don’t know if that’s true, or something that you made up, but it adds more to the lore of the story, however minuscule the detail is. Also makes me curious as to why you chose that specific race, unless it was just random. Then again, it seems that the Resident Evil movie reboot race-swaps Jill so...eh.

A nice touch to having Hunk reminisce about the past and present as he sorted though Jill’s assortments. It makes him quite human, or more human than what he usually shows. Those small bits of reminiscent for each item he inspected kinda reminds us that he wasn’t always like this before, and it’s a depressing thought to have.

The conversation between Hunk and Nighhawk was interesting, to say the least. A lot of references from past games, as well as the more allusive(?) ones too, such as the Rodriguez and Nyx thing. God, I miss the Outbreak games.

Also how Hunk’s characteristics still show, even when he’s in the process of saving Jill. He still prioritises the mission, which wouldn’t be him if he didn’t. Old habits die hard, I suppose. But Nighthawk is somewhat right with his teasing; Death himself has gone soft, for a civilian cop who hates the people he works for, of all women, heh. Granted, he’s being logical of his reasonings as to why he’s saving her. Usual Hunk. If that isn’t a Resident Evil rendition of Romeo and Juliet...hopefully a more happy ending, or as happy as RE can get with this type of relationship.

An outside perspective of Jill and Hunk’s relationship was a nice inclusion too. We’ve had some before, but from Carlos’ POV, who’s known the legend who is Hunk himself, to know that the Death himself could (maybe) feel something for another person, maybe in a romantic way, I’m sure is something very different to Carlos. I’m also curious as to who this ‘War’ is. Along with Bella, she seems to have influenced Hunk too, so hope there’s more delve into her in later chapters.

And that exchange of Hunk giving Jill Matilda was pretty symbolic, in a way. Like a physical promise to her that he’d save her, no matter what she thought. And that whole conversation might as well have been a confession on Jill’s part. Nevermind it being romantic. I think these two have reached a point of understanding, that no one outside but them, know about. It is lowkey sweet.

A sort of nice filler chapter, in a way. It slowed the pace down to just take in everything that’s happened in the previous chapter. And I think they most definitely needed that bit of rest, however long it was. I just really enjoyed how the majority of the chapter was just Hunk having conversations with his allies, and just reminiscing a past he went through, and the present he currently has to go through. And Hunk and Jill having a theme is the probably a highlight to this. Read and listened to the song; couldn’t agree more.

Great chapter overall. Till next time!
