Reviews for Embers
himawarimicchan chapter 91 . 12h
What a wonderful story. I've not had the attention span or patience to read anything this long or as detailed in a long, long time. Thank you for all the effort, heart, creativity, and thoughtfulness poured into this piece. It's truly one of the most wonderful pieces of fanfiction I've ever read. It's clear how much care and research and planning went into it!
Gennarbear chapter 91 . 7/13
This story was so damn good. This is a story I rank with all the stories I find with FanFiction’s based on them. You are a wonderful writer, and this is one of the most memorable and amazing FanFiction’s I have read, probably ever, in the 5 years I’ve been reading from this site. Thank you

Ha ha! Amazing!

Truly, one of the top 10 best fanfics I've ever read. Unfortunately, I'll end up comparing all the other ATLA fics I may or may not read to this one.

Excellent work!

Red hot ice cube chapter 27 . 7/6
Regarding divine right as a concept with such a... flashy element as fire, especially in a culture where sometimes dragon blood can crop up and create a naturally absurdly gifted firebender, where the very soul of a person can want to follow a more powerful flame (after all, the spark never lasts if it doesn’t catch, and a smaller fire meeting a greater one doesn’t stay independent, it joins or dies)... in such an environment a concept like divine right wouldn’t naturally be built around mysticism, or pure order as a divine concept, would it? It would be built on power. The strongest fire is strongest because they hold within themself the greater share of the sun's fire, of the dragon's blood in their veins. The divine right of a king is clearly seen in their flames, their charisma, their strength of character, of will, of fire. Divine right, to such a people, isn’t binary or abstract: to be a bender is to be touched by fire in the soul, to be a stronger bender is to be more dragon, more divine. A question arises about a lord's right to rule? The one questioning can show the lack of their right by pitting, in straightforward and fair manner, fire against fire. The stronger will subsume or consume the weaker and so divinity is shown.

Accurate to the setting?

It also makes me sad that killing Aang is a real option for the White Lotus. From what I gathered, it’s to deal with corrupt Avatars, but Aang isn’t corrupt. He’s a child. His companions are likewise children. He means well, and the people who would otherwise teach him to think are blocked by the comfortable reassurances of his friends that those people are wrong and he’s doing the right thing. He has no real spiritual guide or teacher, after the death of Gyatso and the other monks. He may be learning bending from his friends, but no one is teachin him how to be the Bridge between worlds. No resources, no tips, nothing. Nothing but his past lives, I suppose, but that’s not quite enough is it? It’s crazy that I never considered such far reaching consequences of the events at the North Pole.

I find that Katara is very true to her character in this story so far. Incredibly stubborn and incredibly righteous. We know from canon, though, that she’s capable of distinguishing between innocent Fire nation people and those who aren’t. Generally. She defended fire nation people against a fellow southern water bender who suffered horrible imprisonment. From the philosophy of water tribe community, that should have been unthinkable before, even if Hama’s blood ending was disturbing. I look forward to seeing that growth in character reflected here. Stubborn children yelling about things they know nothing about is very frustrating to keep watching.

Responding to that AN, interesting concept, though I dislike the glimmer of a possibility that it legitimises Shyamalan's Interpretation of firebending. Although it does raise interesting ideas about the candle meditations we see Zuko practicing on the ship.

Just finished binge reading this fic. Great story.
Dadycoool chapter 91 . 7/2
This story was long enough that I went ahead and read it again a few days later, and I definitely got more from the second time through. For example, I'm pretty sure you paired Zuko with Toph, which I utterly missed the first time. This time, I was able to see and recognize the slow, realistic development. Anyway, the story was also good enough that I was willing to reread it again so quickly.
FireDragon484 chapter 91 . 7/2
Ah man, this is the end of Embers. This is probably the best, if not one of the best fanfics I've ever had the pleasure of reading. It's definitely been the best researched & most realistic one, for sure. Thank you so much for writing this fic!
FireDragon484 chapter 89 . 7/2
There's just something so satisfying to see Ozai, the fricken Fire Lord, be taken out by two nonbenders
