I think the China-Japan relationship in real life is kind of different to the one discribed in this chapter. There has been a lot of Japan-annoyance in China lately (I live there). I have no idea what the Japanese think about China. And I am quite sure the dislike for Japan began ever since the end of World War II (look up "Rape of Nanking").
