Reviews for Miscommunication
MorganaLeFaie chapter 5 . 4/1
This was marvelous. Genuinely. I'm many years late but one of my favourite stories ever.
MrsMarySmythe chapter 5 . 10/8/2019
Augh, I've only been reading in the Star Trek section for the past month or so and THIS is the story I've been craving. I generally loiter over in JAFF, so this combination was incredible. Spoke and Uhura remind me strongly of Darcy and Elizabeth, at least in their seemingly stark differences that strangely combine into a satisfying balance, so I don't think I really traveled too far.

This, however, is something else entirely. I'm entirely geeking out over how well you combined P&P with SpockUhura; it's positively seamless. Honestly, had I not read P&P before, I wouldn't have been suspicious of the similarities at all and would have read it simply as a Star Trek fanfiction, which is kinda amazing. Somehow, you've created a crossover that is much like the pairing I described above in that these two different works somehow combined in a symbiotic balance that just works. It doesn't feel forced at all; it feels like all the pieces fit easily together, like a jigsaw. You used the bits that worked (Spock's aloof nature, Uhura's cleverness, the Enterprise as Pemberley, etc) and left out the things that didn't (Mr Collins, romantic meddling, etc) and I've always felt that being judicious with the borrowed details is important. Throwing something into the mix just because it was in the original can often make a fic feel cluttered, but careful selection is often more refreshing and cohesive. In short, I was impressed.

I especially liked how you utilized the characters. Spock and Uhura as Darcy and Elizabeth go without saying, of course, but the minor characters were almost more interesting to contemplate because I had to consider them more carefully. Gaila was a strange, amusing mix of Jane, Charlotte and Lydia; Kirk an unwitting (though hardly malicious) Wickham; the concept of Sarek as Lady Catherine makes me giggle, though he behaved with more dignity than LC ever did; Amanda works perfectly as Georgiana; the female Vulcans as Miss Bingley and Mrs Hurst were appropriately snooty; Uhura's adviser as the Gardiners worked well as both character(s) act in the capacity of a devil's advocate; and so on.

I could go on, but I think my impression has been elaborated on enough. Well done, this is one of my new favorite stories. Props.
Trude chapter 5 . 3/4/2019
I re-read this story a few weeks ago (still as great as the first time around) and a few days ago, I happened to watch "Pride&Prejudice&Zombies) and while watching, I never thought "oh yeah, this is like the JA novel" but constantly compared it to the things that happened in this story

PLwrite chapter 5 . 6/26/2016
This is a wonderful story and a very clever integration of P&P with ST. Very well done. I read this some years ago and enjoyed it, but failed to comment. I'm sorry for the delay. I've been away from ST fandom for some time, enjoying JAFF recently and this pulled me back across.

Several things I really like here ... your portrayal of Spock's confusion and dignity and self-involved outlook (at least at the beginning) takes cues from Darcy but read so well into this character and make him more understandable in his alienness. Also, Uhura's ambition and self-assuredness are very in character for her, but you've stretched them to prejudice which is an interesting take on her character and makes her more flawed and young than I'm used to seeing her. Which is great. Also, loved Amanda and the irritating VSA folks. Great story. Thanks for sharing it.
magthorn chapter 5 . 6/22/2016
This is absolutely wonderful! I totally love your story!
tanseynz chapter 5 . 4/5/2015
A very clever incorporation of Pride & Prejudice without being trite or taking anything away from your interpretation of the canon characters and their very original romance.
I especially appreciated the role of unreasoning negative bias when Sarek, ignoring Uhura's rescue of his colleague, stoked his fear that the human was a mite too important to his already disappointing son. It's not often used with such skill, and rather than having the perpetrator an already unpleasant characters such as Lady Catherine DeBurgh, using Spock's father made it far more visceral.
RedShirtSurvivor chapter 5 . 1/2/2015
So I devoured this because it was delicious. I love your interpretation of Spock...rebellious and insecure while trying to balance these unfamiliar emotions with logic! You perfectly capture his stuggle and made me fall in love with both of his halfs. Uhura is good here too, almost blinded by her ambitious but she develops and grows, gaining some perspective, which I love. You don't just throw them together. They have to first overcome the cultural divide and the barriers within themselves. It's very realistic and engaging. And this is actually one of my favorite versions of AOS Jim. He's charming, charismatic and a natural born leader, all the things that make that character special while simultaneously he's young, reckless and immature which is unique to this reboot universe. I'm just heartbroken knowing that Spock's going to lose Vulcan and Amanda. You have shown command of the most beautiful and complex aspects of these characters. Excellent stroytelling. Thanks for writing :)
Nice One chapter 3 . 12/3/2014
Section 6. Laf tor: good job

She is a top linguistic student who speaks Vulcan. Although most humans would not be able to speak his name, she undoubtedly would be able to do so.

It would seem that the academy was remiss in their cultural diversity instruction. How could a fourth year xenolinguistic student not know about Vulcan culture?
