Reviews for His Calling
beware i am a fangirl chapter 59 . 6/22/2013
I've just read through every single chapter of this (and severely annoyed my girlfriend by ignoring her whilst I do so, but I digress) and I have to say I love it. I love all the twists and turns and the sometimes dark humour. Definitely one of the better Marauder multi-chaps i've read.
excessivelyperky chapter 59 . 1/16/2012
Excellent chapter. Remus is maturing (though I would love to have seen his face when he met Sanguini, snicker).

And the Marauders are changing. You have to wonder what Peter is really thinking these days, and if he's tired of being a fifth wheel (if not further down the line, with the baby coming).
excessivelyperky chapter 58 . 12/25/2011
"I expected better of you," Albus frowned. "If you had not lost your temper you would not be in this condition."

-Ah. I expect Remus never expected to hear *that*. And I don't remember the scene where he got beat up at the Ministry, was it not in there?

I notice that he's not telling his parents what his friends said that hurt Lucy so much. Again, the Marauders are more important to him than she is.

It's terrifying, in a way, to watch Sirius Black being the diplomatic one. And Remus's analysis of why James hated Snape is spot-on. "Because he exists" could easily cover anyone that Lily knows. But since Lily will never have any more friends that James doesn't know about, she won't have to worry about that little tendency for James to go after them, will she?

Anyway, very good chapter, but it does feel like there is a gap between this chapter and the last one.
excessivelyperky chapter 57 . 12/23/2011
Try as she might she could not get Peter's crude remark or Lily's condescending tone out of her mind.

-Poor Lucy. But she's right. If push came to shove, Remus would choose the Order and his friends over her. She's not an equal, and the Marauders (plus Lily, who is one by now) are going to make sure she knows it.

Even the Weasleys don't talk about their Squib cousin. Here's hoping she finds a Muggle who will love her and tell her the truth.
excessivelyperky chapter 56 . 12/19/2011
Excellent chapter. I like how Remus tries to control himself even while he's a wolf, and helps to rescue those Muggles and the people in the cellar.

I especially enjoy hearing Albus explain why he watched over Remus and his friends. Why bother about the Marauders' victims, after all? Snape's only a greasy Slytherin, no matter how horrible the home he goes to.

Of course, Remus never goes into specifics, or he might have to face his own responsibility. Fortunately, Albus absolves him of any wrongdoing.

Good scene between Remus and Lucy, again. (how nice that Remus doesn't have to 'pay' Albus to protect her).
excessivelyperky chapter 55 . 12/16/2011
"Yeah, well if he stayed away from that Malfoy I know Lily would be happier. Did you hear? About Potter and Evans?"

-Let's see. Snape was almost eaten by a werewolf, told he had no right to complain, dumped by Lily in favor of the guy who thought it was all right to beat him up 'because he exists', and yet, Remus and his friends still feel they have the right to disapprove of him. Um, right. It's not like the Order would ever do anything for Snape but spit on his grave (as we saw in canon). Maybe, just maybe, they could have treated him like a human being, not that it ever happened.

But this is a good chapter; James tries to be a good friend to Remus, and Remus tries to stand on his own two feet. And I do like the scene between him and Lucy.
excessivelyperky chapter 54 . 10/22/2011
I'm surprised that Remus didn't take the chance to whack Greyback when he had it-it certainly would have made the Second War a bit different, and maybe saved a lot of kids from being bitten by him.

Good chapter, though.
excessivelyperky chapter 53 . 10/20/2011
"Silence!" Albus shouted over the growing roar. "Go on, Molly."

-Wait, I thought Molly had gone to the midwife with Alice..

Good meeting, though I am not certain exactly what leadership qualities Lupin showed at Hogwarts, but McGonagall is going to say he has them anyway.

And if too many more people know that Remus is in the Order, it's going to show up in the next day's Prophet. Then again, they also had that photograph of the Order in Voldie War I, which was also not the brightest idea, either.
excessivelyperky chapter 52 . 10/15/2011
Great chapter-there is a lot of chaos at this time of Voldie War I, and Remus reflect that. I like the drill he has to go through, and the way you write Moody so well in character.
excessivelyperky chapter 51 . 10/8/2011
I don't blame Lucy for serving Remus with an ultimatum. He _could_ live in the Muggle world with a few precautions and her help, and he's clearly refusing to even think about the possibility. But then, he's so used to being a Marauder that I suspect he feels that would be treachery to them, even though he will have so many restrictions in the magical world that he probably won't be able to help that much.

Very good chapter, though.
excessivelyperky chapter 50 . 7/17/2011
Good chapter. I see Dumbledore is doing his recruiting early (and so is Voldie, though we don't see it...yet). I wonder if Peter's family staying alive was the price of his betrayal?
excessivelyperky chapter 49 . 6/29/2011
Very good chapter. I'm glad that Remus spotted Greyback and his newly turned victims.

And that was cruel of St. Mungo's to turn Remus over to vets-one can only hope at least one of them actually knows how to care for a werewolf. (you have to wonder if werewolves come down with the same diseases as magical humans do, actually).
excessivelyperky chapter 48 . 6/15/2011
Good chapter. I see he is no longer using the Shrieking Shack for his transformations (though I don't remember Lupin's eyes being any different in PoA and _presumably_ he was taking the potions that Snape made for him).

And yes, he found out where Greyback et al were preying on humans. But of course Albus always has a good reason for not doing anything about what's going on (how long did he wait before going after Grindelwald?).

But Remus is in no position to bargain; the Headmaster knows far too much about the Marauders for Remus to argue, never mind the threat of memory charms.
excessivelyperky chapter 47 . 6/7/2011
"What easier way to rid our world of those different to ourselves than to teach the children to hate."

-'Because he exists'.

"It's a lot like that now," Remus snorted a laugh. "It doesn't take being taught in school to hate, we have enough to go around already."

-Yes. You have to wonder how easily Gryffindors are taught to hate; but both James and Sirius are apt pupils. But then, Remus will watch out for them as he always has; never mind the other students in school. His resolutions are always so strong when he's away from them, but somehow fail when he is with them.

I was a bit surprised to see Lucius there at the train; he's five years older than Snape and his classmates in canon.

Anyway, a very good chapter. I do hope Remus remembers all his promises when he's around his friends.
excessivelyperky chapter 46 . 6/1/2011
Nine, but Snape isn't exactly what I would call accepting," he whispered, swiping his arm across his eyes.

-Yeah, imagine that. How does Remus feel, knowing that Dumbledore is covering his friends' crimes as well as his own? Oh, well, he's a Gryffindor. No doubt he expects it. Hope there isn't trouble when the Marauders go out cruising Hogsmeade during the full moon again this last year.

His relationship with Lucy is heartbreaking, though. He adores her, but fears for her-half the time he's reaching for her, and the other half he's pushing her away.

Very good chapter.
