Beautiful! Very subtly worked up, dealing with a tender subject. I love the tidbit at the end about Layton keeping an eye on Luke - already stepping into his new role. Being a gentleman, Layton isn't exactly the shotgun-toting type of father, but... anyone who's played Diabolical Box knows what he's capable of! (no spoilers here kthxbai ;)

If you have any intention of reworking this story in the future, I would recommend pacing it more slowly, spreading out the movement by adding more (pertinent) description and emotion. This particular subject can only benefit from careful handling; while you managed it very well, I can see in your writing that you could achieve a greater level of delicacy with the slightest effort.

Of course, if you're leaving the fic as-is, then please ignore my nitpickery and turn your attention to my praise!
