I'm not one of those people who are like "muh virginity" and cherish it like retards, but really she slept with how many guys? someone rescue my boy Shinji, their already a hard pair to "ship" my god man, anyway I guess it shows how hard post third-impact life is. Also does he even get laid with Asuka, if not, then that's even sadder lmao, what a terribly unhealthy and sad relationship. I feel bad for Shinji honestly, not only does he have to pilot again, he is stuck back with a crazy, suicidal bitch who still treats him like trash. Whats the saying that people say "life is hard, but it's worth living" in Shinji's case I don't see it as worth living, I don't feel any happiness from this fic. All in all it's a pretty sad fic, all the characters seem fucked, the whole world is fucked, everything is fucked, and their doesn't seem to be any light at the end. Like Evangelion is sad enough, I prefer a fanfic where they go through hell, but then get their happy end, ok bye.

I liked the story. I think you really nailed the characters (especially Asuka), and showed the harsh reality of a post impact world really well.

I do think that things/events happened too fast in this story and that it would have been better to have more detail.

I'd like a sequel, but since this story is pretty old, I doubt there is much chance of that happening. I'd also be interested in a prequel since the events of the past of this story seem interesting too.

It just became even more depressing that she slept with both of those bastard. The story was depressing enough, but that outright ruined things for me. For one it seems like dub-con at best, something I find tasteless, for another;
It simply does not seem in character for her to do that, even with how damaged she is, I think her pride would still get in the way.

While I quite enjoyed this one, I feel I can actually offer criticism of it.

While the pace was fast, and the brevity refreshing, I feel a little more scene setting and description would have helped in places. I don't have a very clear mental image of Berlin, or any of the major players. The emotional impact was also somewhat muted.

I'm also slightly confused as to why they were getting on a boat at the end.

Very readable, and a nice new take on the Eva universe but not as affecting as it could have been.

Wowee. That was something, wasn't it. I give you a lot of credit for managing to age-up Shinji and Asuka in ways that kept them true to their fundamental characters but also let them both grow. Shinji still hates fighting but he's more capable of forcing himself to do what must be done - even if he needs to decide that for himself. My favorite part of the fic was your Asuka though - it was fascinating to see her a bit more mature and a lot more introspective, especially looking back on her relationship with Shinji. And Asuka has become a lot more savvy about how this dystopian world works - unlike one of your reviewers, I saw nothing wrong at all with the revelation that Asuka had been pressured into sleeping with Winthrop and others. She's always known that men look at her that way, even when it was in the quasi-hysterical 'everyone's a pervert' phase (and oh my god that nod to that when they were putting the plugsuits on was hysterical and heartbreaking all at once); it makes sense she would realize she could work that to her advantage, especially when the only other reason anyone would keep her alive is because she can (hypothetically) pilot Eva. It really all came together in the Eva battle sequence.

Gotta say that epilogue was ominous as hell. Has anything actually changed?

And I loved how Asuka and Shinji both came to the realization that they really did need one another, simply because they couldn't stand being alone. Asuka still can't love and Shinji still can't say no to love, but for now, at least, it works.

Very interesting read, short, but very interesting. I liked how you wrapped up Asuka and Shinji's 'relationship'. I know it's been a long time since you wrote this, likewise for me, but I'll be on the lookout for any future offerings. Well done.

Allow me to add my vigorous applause and hope for a sequel.
A wonderfully dark, yet not GRIMDARKWAAAGH, look at the world after all the beating End of Eva hit it with.
A sequel would be lovely, to learn why they were separated for so long, why Shinji ended up in Boston for some of that time, and (as I am a hopeless Shinji/Asuka shipper) hopefully see them make some closer connection than what they have: Shinji still so desperate for affection (and equally desperate to protect Asuka after failing to protect everyone else he's ever cared for) that he'll take even the palest imitation of a bod with her, and Asuka so burned-out, soul-weary, and in so much concealed inner pain that she can't even bear to reach out to someone she knows is utterly devoted to her.
Am I correct to assume she was given some sort of 'get in my bed or get a bullet' ultimatum from Winthrop? And was passed to Jinnai after he lost interest? That's the feeling I got from the nicely creepy hints. I can imagine that Katsuhiko hasn't lost his 'I'm the only person in the world who matters' attitude. His 'protection' of Asuka would be just as nasty, if better in comparison.
Shinji's never done anything since Misato kissed him, and Asuka's possibly been subject to years of not quite rape, and may never have had a consensual sexual experience in her life since kissing Shinji. Wow.
The potential emotional turmoil you've left open to explore would make a dynamite sequel, without even touching invading South America or finding out what happened to Gendo. Please do write that for us one day!

Really nice story. A realistic post 3I scenario, if people did come back. The battle scenes were great, plot was good as well(although a little more info on Winthrop would be nice). Sad thing that Shinji and Asuka's relationship got cold like that, but oh well.

I hope the idea of a sequel is still up, would be glad to see it. :P

Well written story. Dark and often bleak in its showing of the childrens relationship. Intelligently written with a kind of Orwellian vibe going on with Winthrop and the Post 3I World. Also liked the reference to the Nazi show trials and Judge Roland Freisler in the demise of Gendo.
