What an excellent find this story was. You're writing is truly lovely to read, the use of description and insight into a character many have fallen in love with was excellent. I like this interpretation of a scene that wasn't in the movie but most definately could have been. Kirk is a complex character and you have definately captured him well here. Excellent job. I look forward to reading more from you.

Nicely done. Enjoyable, in character fic. I didn't get the references to Winona or Frank, but I'm not up on my Star Trek knowledge. Great, well written fic nonetheless. :)

Nice, very nice. Excellent structure, grammar, spelling, all that good stuff; lovely thought progression, very smooth flow. A well written, neat and trim description of Kirk's decision to enroll in Starfleet. I particularly enjoyed the concept embodied in these few lines: "He thought about changing his shirt, too, then thought better of it, staring at his battered features in the mirror. Starfleet was going to get Jim Kirk exactly as he was, no compromises. If he was going to do this, then it would be his way, or not at all."

! a phenomenal story per your usual! you really describe the characters life as if it were your own! i love the part about he tosses the ship over the cliff. and the dirty shirt; "starfleet was going to get jim kirk exactly as he was, no compromises." thats truly who he is, to the T. you have all the praises i can give, and more :-)
