| A Fellow Aussie chapter 1 . 1/30/2012 I really admire the concept of this spin on HSM, but the first few paragraphs had me running for the hills. Instead, I scrolled down to the end and found the Aussie dictionary and I can honestly say I have never come across more than half of those expressions in my life, and I was born here in Australia. I dislike it when people play up the stereotypical Aussie life; the outback, lots of kangaroos and living the so called easy life. I have a friend who moved from the US and she told me that some of her friends asked her if they rode kangaroos to school and if they were hopping around everywhere. I constantly cringe at the thought of people thinking that we actually do these sorts of things. We all know that life is nothing like that for the majority of Australians so I just don't understand why people enjoy letting the world think that we're a bunch of rogue bums who are lazy and speak with god awful accents and slang. I don't know if many other Australians feel this way, but I guess that's how it is for me. I know that you guys are just having a bit of fun with this piece and I respect that completely. |
