This is good, I like the pacing and the introspection - it feels like keeping a long vigil alone by a sickbed. Your descriptions of what Mal observes about the rest of the crew are apt as well.

Very nicely done, and a brilliant view of Mal, a man who I have always considered might not trust, but has never given up his belief in God.
