Reviews for Harry Potter and the Wand of Uru
Oghenevwogaga chapter 5 . 7/10
Hope you keep updating.
Simianpower chapter 5 . 7/1
Still more setup. I feel like there's a good story in here, but I'm not sure I'll ever get to read it. The longest story I've seen on the author's profile was the Shell of the God-King one, which, while also incomplete, was pretty boring. Like this story, everything felt like background or setup and the story never really got going. It was 4 years ago when I read that, and I feel that the writing of this one is better, but given that only the very short stories get finished I don't have high hopes that this one will go anywhere.

So... still interested, still ambivalent, still waiting for story to start. Much like God-King, this has a good setup, but hasn't done anything with it yet.
Simianpower chapter 4 . 7/1
"Dora" Black was referred to as "Tonks" in the prior chapter.

Not liking Altaira much so far. And Harry's an idiot if he doesn't know what's up with Cissy and Lily.

Why has he not told anyone he lacks a wand? You'd think that he'd want to test out his magic as well as get into physical shape. For all he knows, he's far weaker than before. (Should that be the case, I'm done with this story, because he's already been nerfed every other way possible.)

Still interested. Still ambivalent. Still waiting for setup to end and story to begin. And there's only one chapter left, and from the reviews before 2018 this is at least the second or third iteration of a story that's oft-abandoned for years at a time. Maybe I should have waited until it was finished as I usually do.
Simianpower chapter 3 . 7/1
Huh. Well... huh.

Neville-Who-Lived and Harry's Living Parents are two of the tropes I hate the most in all HP fandom. But that's because they're usually done terribly. Giving up Harry to Petunia in favor of his twin because manipulative!Dumbledore said so, or something like that.

So again I'm ambivalent. Because even at the end of chapter 3 I have no idea where this story is going. Nerfed!Harry is annoying. Losing his wand/hammer (*cough* Mjolnir *cough*) and his book of secrets, his health, his parselmouth abilities, all in favor of getting... basically nothing so far. James being an asshole is totally believable. Sirius NOT being as much of an asshole is a bit harder to believe. No memories of the world is functionally the same as amnesia, which is also annoying, but at least that lets us discover the world as Harry does, so that comes out in the wash. I'd hoped that he'd be honest with Lily so that he has at least SOMEONE he can talk to, but I guess that's not to be. Harry NOT being the Chosen One gives him a degree of freedom that he never had in canon, although the freedom to break all the rules with impunity may go away. And I have doubts that this world's Harry knew wandless magic or nearly as much combat magic as he has now, so he has a secret weapon.

All in all I'm still ambivalent, still interested, and hope that the actual story starts soon since the prior three chapters are all setup.
Simianpower chapter 1 . 7/1
"The two most important women in his life"? That's a bit rich, since Harry never knew her. Especially given his rant IN THIS CHAPTER about how Hermione shouldn't talk about Luna as if she knew her. He obviously puts stock in knowing someone prior to acting like one is close to them, yet... this?

This is an interesting start. I don't like the 10-year jump forward, but it seems that more and more authors are doing that. The wildly AU elements of Harry's back-story... I don't mind so much. I actually prefer stories written prior to Order of the Phoenix, because they treat magic as something wondrous rather than just another McGuffin. (Horcruxes and Hallows: UGH!)

It's also a little weird that he's talking to and about Luna as if she's in some paradise when earlier in the chapter it was made clear that Voldemort ripped her apart so badly that even the Resurrection Stone couldn't get purchase. It's clear that there's nothing left of her spirit. This chapter is very inconsistent on that. Either that or Harry isn't all there, which I suppose is also possible.

Finally, it's weird that Hermione still has the top spot given the changes to backstory. She's busy doing Ron more than anything else, while Harry got training from enough experts that he beat Voldemort straight-out rather than via some McGuffin interaction like in canon... yet he's NOT in the top spot?

I'm ambivalent about this chapter. I'm interested enough to read more, but there are enough internal inconsistencies that I'm not sure I'll like it. I'm also a bit worried that in 12 years there have been only 5 chapters. But at least that'll make getting through it quick?

Bubblezmith chapter 5 . 6/22
Quite painful compared to the original, definite lack of flow. I still miss your first stuff where Rensaren was an axe, loved that.

WhiteElfElder chapter 5 . 6/21
It seems there are some really minor, some not so minor, and some major differences in this universe. Too bad Harry did not know Su's mother tongue, it would have been hilarious if he accidentally started speaking to her in it like he sometimes slips in speaking Parseltongue with snakes.
imgonnadie chapter 5 . 6/20
