Apparently, it's been ten years since I read this fic and I still keep thinking about it. This was the first slash fic I ever read. I'm a bit sorry I couldn't fully appreciate it at the time (back then, I used to think the first chapter was just fine on its own), but I've since grown to appreciate the comfort part of hurt/comfort a lot more and I'm glad you wrote that second chapter.

truly beautiful story with Vimes anger reaching new level of sweetness and caring. and subtle humor makes dark part of the story lighter. you should post it on AO3 for enjoyment of others.

*hugs author* Yes! That was really good! I'm grinning all over, right now! The start was horrible, but the end is just so sweet... *sobs* I think you portrayed the characters brilliantly and thank you sooo much for nailing Vetenari! He's my favourite character, so that was important to me!

This is probably the best and most in character fan fiction I've ever read.

As much as I generally dislike making Vetinari a homosexual in any sense of the word...I loved this. I really did. I can actually see it happening, with a few modifications to his character. Brilliantly well written, even for such uncharted waters, and...well, it was amazing. *cough* I think I'll go call my boyfriend now...reading this sort of thing always puts me in a damn aroused mood...
Anyway, great work, loved the characterizations.

I've adored this story for a long while, but this is the first time I've re-read it in while (yes, it's eminently worthy of re-reading), and I feel compelled to review.

This is simply beautiful. So well written, so in-keeping with the whole style of Discworld, it's just phenomenal. I had never considered Discworld slash before reading this, and whilst I look on most attempts with dubious eyes, this has opened my mind to a whole new set of possibilities, and for this you should be congratulated.

You manage to keep the two men in character whilst putting them in situations so far removed from the canon, and this is a wonderful skill that I dearly wish I possessed.

There honestly aren't words to tell you how much I love this fic. :)

Very dark, very good and even touching. Your dialogue is absolutely brilliant. The entire piece is believable and everyone is in character despite the extreme circumstances.

I went searching for Vimes/Vetinari fiction yesterday and found this (not on this site, mind, but this story). To say it "hit the spot" would be an egregious understatement. This satisfied cravings for this pairing I didn't even know I had. As I said, I found this story yesterday, while on a friend's computer, and today, on my own laptop, I spent nearly two hours searching for it again, because I knew I wanted to bookmark it and possibly share it with fellow Discworld/slash fans. This is amazing.
