I found it interesting that you took the scene from CotBP and replayed it here with such similarities and yet such different results. A wound on her hands, again Will's fault. Again, it is Will comforting Elizabeth in innocence, and again it is Elizabeth asking for more...but the dynamic is different. We sense a taste of the original awkwardness with Will's frustration at her shock (and went and beside her-you're missing a word in this line!), but we see a different moment at the ending. I was half-expecting this to turn sour, a sort of let's make up for that lost moment alone in the Pearl, shall we?; and I was pleasantly surprised at the turn you decided to take. We find them in a situation much more emotionally intimate, comforting in its familiarity. There was a deeper dynamic to their relationship that went beyond just simple romance. I'm glad we got a chance to see it.

I loved the theme: I'll always take care of you. But it made me sad for some reason-reading this reminded me that no matter how hard Will tries to be a man and look after Elizabeth, it has always been Elizabeth rescuing and watching over him. She pulls him out of the water, she saves him from Barbossa's crew, her influence stops Norrington and her father from hanging him not once but twice, and even in DMC she ends up going off to Tortuga just to find he's in trouble (no surprise) again. And yet emotionally, Will is always the one who reminds her to cry and to love. They both watch over and take care of the other, and it was poignant to see this realization pass between them. Thank you for a beautifully written fic!
