This is a fic I read whenever I come back to the YGO fandom. The language is simple but powerful. The portrayal of AE culture seems accurate as far as I know. The Moses parallel and the accompanying imagery (especially Bakura's cloak "bleeding" and turning the Nile crimson) are wonderful.

It's always bothered me that after a brief moment of horror, Bakura's grievance was swept under the rug. (Oh they were a village of THIEVES my Pharoah. That makes their wholesale slaughter totally acceptable.*eyeroll*) But even that reaction is a distortion of the Memory World after Atemu has been living in the modern age. There's no reason to think that he was even as kind as that the first time around, and that he didn't pull the "I am the Morning and Evening Star!" schtick.

(Note: I don't think Bakura is a poor sad woobie or anything or that he was justified in nearly destroying the world. But his desire for revenge was understandable.)

So this was really cool. I could hear the emphasis on in dialogue as I was reading it. (May have said a couple lines aloud.) Nice one!

Now to go listen to that song.

I cannot adequately express my sheer joy at finding this without capslock, but I thought I'd spare you my fangirling. A couple weeks ago I found a video on youtube that had "The Plagues" using Yugioh clips from season 5, with Bakura as the Pharaoh and Atem as Moses. I've been obsessed with the similarities ever since, so finding this fic was AWESOME. I also liked the cultural references - red being the color of Seth, etc. I would have completely missed them had I not just spent the last four hours being a nerd and reading up on ancient Egypt :)

OMG OMG OMG! That was awesome! Yet another writer seeing how Moses and Bakura are alike. . Anyway, I am gonna work on a story called Truth, been in my head for a year. Has the whole idea like yours with a twist.

And you're not the only one getting a "Moses" vibe off of Bakura. I just watched the Prince of Egypt and I was like, "Their cloaks are the same!"

I've also read some fanfictions where Bakura is Hebrew and I know I've read somewhere (official) that Atem's grandfather was Ramses. That would just give Bakura even MORE reason to hate Atem.

I wish this could be continued, but even if it's not, it's still awesome! Keep writing!

OH MY GOD. this is absolutely amazing. it's so sad, and haunting, and horrific, and incredible. seriously, goose bumps. the ending image was absolutely amazing, with the nile turning into blood. i like how you worked the cloak into that.

i'm glad i'm not the only one who sees the similarities between bakura and moses! i never realized the snake thing before, though. i wonder if it was on purpose, or maybe i'm just reading way too much into kazuki takahashi's mind...

Yes, I'm so happy I wasn't the only one that saw the similarities between them! I've never had the courage to attempt something like this, though, and the blood from the coat was just a stroke of genius.

I think the thing that is most interesting about this is that technically there's about... Oh, I knew this once, just a difference of 200 years between cannon AE and Exodus. Sorry if comparing timelines like that offends you, it's just something that crossed my mind... But the time difference is actually very small, so this is another reason this sort of cross works so well. :)

I really do hope you write more here because I've seen the rest of your work in the Yu-Gi-Oh section and I think I'm in love.

Anyway, I thought it was fantastic, in a nutshell.

I find this quite fascinating, the way it's just so slightly tweaked between the two to fit. I am very much fond of both worlds twisted together here. And The Plagues is my favorite song of the soundtrack. Nice work, really. Intriguing. I like it.

Oh wow, I liked how you incorporated the Bible in here. An interesting read.
