Reviews for The boy who gave away his birthday
cyries chapter 1 . 2/3/2012
A very lovely story! Not sure what I liked best, Death's sensibleness and love, Daniel-who-is-not-Morpheus-but-still-loves, Delirium being her delightful self, Chris in the middle, Desire plotting as it does, seeing Rose again... All so good! But in the end, I think what Despair did was the very best part.
Sear chapter 1 . 7/11/2011
This is lovely.
Mantinas chapter 1 . 4/25/2009
I hope that that was not the end. Though it may be the best time to stop; it seems like there needs to be more. But that's up to you.

Besides that, words cannot describe how wonderful this story is. It's kinda like sitting down and reading the series.
Qoheleth chapter 1 . 7/23/2008
Dear monkeycrackmary:

On the one hand, a story with this sort of title really ought to be a traditionally-constructed folk tale, with an easily-identifiable story arc, told in a direct and straightforward style, and with the birthday that the boy gave away being a good deal more important to the resolution of the story than it was here. On the other hand, you wrote Delirium amazingly well.

Sincerely,

Qoheleth

Great story! You've captured each of the Family Endless beautifully! Hope to read more of your work!
Talia Falcon chapter 1 . 7/5/2005
*cheers for you* YOu caught their essence. All of them. That was one of the more incredible stories I've read on this site, and rates just under Gaiman for Sandman originality. If that made sense.

"...pinning the intruder against the wall with such force two picture frames fell off their nails."

I just thought you'd like to know that I had a dream where I pinned Desire to a wall, because she'd been following me.
Redwood1 chapter 1 . 4/11/2004
I really like this story. I think you did a good job capturing the different personalities of the endless as well as their interactions with each other. I hope you continue to write and I would be especially delighted to see more Sandman stories. Thanks for all the hard work and a wonderful story!
Nelja chapter 1 . 1/22/2004
It was very, very good. The endless are exactly like they have to be, and there are some very poetic things - not as much as there are in real Gaiman stories, but the same type...
The only thing I could reproach is that we saw few interaction between Chris and Daniel/Dream before Chris realizes they are in love, and, in my opinion, we don't see enough how it happened. Just one scene more, without Delirium or talking-about-Delirium, would have been good.
Lamia2 chapter 1 . 10/10/2003
Did you know that this is one of my favorite Sandman stories? I read it, a long time ago, when this category only had a handful of stories. I looked for it again, now so many years pass, and I'm still happy when I read it. I suppose the part that I always remember is the description of Chris, specifically that all the girls had wanted him, but he was too busy playing with the Endless to notice. And of course, the real reason why I liked this story so much, was because Chris kissed Dream. What a wonderful story. Thank you for sharing it with me...
sawdust chapter 1 . 5/14/2003
I have to say, I *really* like this story :) Although I feel that there should be a little more at the end. It would be great if you could add another chapter.. or three :D Anyways, great work!
Dreamiflame chapter 1 . 9/7/2002
"I'm standing in my gallery holding your sigil but it got kind of squashed because I tried to make it a water pistol."

*giggles* You already know what I think of this, Miss Mary, but I wanted to say that I loved that line. It made me smile.
Kaos chapter 1 . 8/12/2002
That was an awesome story! I absolutely loved it, even tho I've never read any of The Sandman comics. You're story really was great. I'm just gushing over here about your story. _ Well, keep it up and all that. This story really was, uh, touching. Delirum's my personal fave. Lil' cutie.
knack chapter 1 . 3/31/2002

Random1 chapter 1 . 1/15/2002
Great fic! You have the voice of Delirium down especially well. And you've captured Gaiman's style of writing: profound, witty, bizzare. It's an inventive story, and finishes the plots left hanging in the comics beautifully. I really liked this.
malintencionado chapter 1 . 11/24/2001
I am infinitaly impressed by your ability to tell story and capture drama and romance even in such a captivating manner. You have the characters and the stories and personalities down perfectly so much so that I think Neil would be quite proud to read this.
