Reviews for Purity 2: Defiance
iChaos chapter 51 . 5/26/2011
In the end, I pretty much devoured this fic overnight, and it was a great companion piece to Purity #1. I enjoyed the portrayal of Toga quite a bit, but I liked Sierra even more. I'm sure that a lot of it had to do with the setting where they fell in love, but even more so because Sierra's acceptance of Toga and his heritage appeared so natural, despite the fact that she knew nothing of the history in Japan. It was one thing for a human such as Kagome to become involved with youkai - after all, she was born a miko and was raised in that culture, but even though Sierra is a descendant of Sango & Miroku, she was still an outsider.

I also appreciated the way that you integrated the original characters into the overall continuity while maintaining a role for the first generation. I thought that one plot flowed seamlessly into the other, to the point that the OC's appeared to be natural extensions of their canon parentage. (Yes, even the hentai twins.)

Although Kagome & InuYasha both mellowed a bit with time, their core characteristics were still present. Sesshomaru in particular was in rare form, but he had to be in order for this installment of the story to work. Honestly, I could see where he was coming from, but I couldn't quite grasp why he was so convinced that Toga would somehow be "safer" with a youkai mate. Surely, Toga would have to face challengers one way or another eventually, so what does it matter if he mates a human, and their children would be hanyou? Aren't Kagome & InuYasha proof enough that what you are isn't as important as who you are. Sesshomaru no baka.

Perhaps the most compelling (and confusing) part of the story was Sierra's biological parents. Is that all there is to it? They just felt a responsibility to warn her about the disease, and that's the end of it? Wow. That's awful.

Well anyway, if I was a fan of Purity before, I'm even more into it now. If the first story conveyed a sense of desperation and a genuine triumph of love over fear, then Purity 2 demonstrates that life goes on, as long as there is hope of a better tomorrow.

Damn.

When it was revealed that Sierra was adopted, I just knew that nothing good would come of it. This is not what I was expecting, but you are doing a wonderful job of portraying the all-consuming angst of the circumstances that the characters are living through at this point.

Something from Purity #1 keeps popping up in my head though - something having to do with a ritual involving youkai marking their mortal mates through a blood-letting ceremony. If I recall correctly, in addition to completing a portion of the bond between mates, it would imbue the human mate with some supernatural abilities, including longevity and health.

What effect would this have on a genetic disease though, and why does Toga seem to be ignorant of this?

Whoa.

This is good. I mean, really good.

I still cannot believe he ran over her dog though!

...and you couldn't have picked a more perfect setting for them to meet. Chicago is my favorite place that I've ever been. The scene under the fountain was fantastic, and I can picture it so easily in my mind that it's rather breathtaking to imagine.

This is really, really good so far. I wonder: If Sierra is adopted, is there any chance that she might somehow be youkai? If so, how is it possible that she doesn't know it, and Toga apparently can't tell if she is either? Not that it would matter in the big picture, but it would add an interesting dynamic to the fic.

Crisis chapter 3 . 7/2/2007
To paraphrase a popular line concerning kids taking after their parents: Toga may have Sesshoumaru's looks, but I'll be damned if he ain't Kagura's boy.

Watch the episode where she shreds Hakudoshi for trying to use her to test the death gates, and compare their reactions to being manipulated, if you don't get what I'm talking about.

Your Beta's sent back my document and said "From what you wrote he sounds fairly interesting and while Sue probably won't use him as she likes to create her own characters, I'm sure she'd enjoy looking over your character specs..." But I needed to use a Diffrent Format. So I changed the Format and I need you to send me your actual E-mail Address or another e-mail address to send you the Document. yOU DO NOT HAVE TO USE THE CHARACTER IF YOU DON'T WANT, I ONLY WANT YOUR OPION ON HIM.

Thanks for every thing
