With how much information Rowling leaves out of her books, this is surprisingly plausible. I don't think anyone actually says that you can't do it and seeing as Rowling's information suffers from holes the size of North America, (and she's constantly changing her mind about crap every five seconds) I have to say I agree with you. Nicely done.

So, as I thought, I wasn't the first one :)

Even though it would have been far easier this way, I reckon the Ministry of Magic (Ludo Bagman or whoever it is who controls the tournament) would put a charm on the egg/cup so it couldn't be summoned (like the Horcruxes can't be summoned either). As for Ron, I don't know, but he was tied up I guess... But still this alternative is very funny either way. Good story!
