I love the *idea* behind Rituals; as you emphasized, Rituals allow us a moment to reflect and give thanks for the bounties bestowed upon us. Whether 'pagan' (which actually is just any religious practice or worship that's not *sanctioned* by the religious hierarchy (-ies) in power at the present time and not just 'Nature lovers'. Lol!) or religious, the ceremonial movements and/or words in a set format or pattern allows for the communion of purpose.
I had both of my sons Christened; the ceremonies brought great joy to both myself and the congregations we were a part of. I could *feel* the LOVE! Jesus said, "Where 2 or more are gathered in my name, there I will be also!"
Speaking of Jesus and rituals, it was our Episcopalian Minister who, during his annual *Passover Seder* observance, enlightened me to the fact that the "Last Supper" that Jesus is leading, that they are actually observing a Passover Seder! Jesus as Rabbi was celebrating a *Ritual* of thanksgiving and gratitude!

My husband is a 'glass-half-empty' kind of guy, but though I'm the most cynical person I know, I'm a 'glass-half-full' kind of gal. ;D I'm constantly giving Thanks to my Lord AND to Mother Gaia for their Blessings.

I hope you tell us (in MORE detail) the retribution suffered by the Dursleys. I hope Vernon dies in a prison riot, or some such happening. It would be VERY apropos if if was leaked out into the general population that Vernon was a "cho-mo", (child molester) or a child abuser. Even though he wasn't a cho-mo, the "punishment" would be a closer fit to his crimes. "Normal, my behind!" The Dursleys should learn what NORMAL people think of them in a very harsh way.
