Reviews for Not What You Were Expecting
Lonely Support chapter 6 . 7/19
Sorry for taking so long to review this chapter, but I had a lot of stuff going on and I wanted to make sure that with all that happen here that I was able to give my full thoughts. And what a chapter this was.

First I want to say I love the scene with Takemi and Sadayo at the start. I really do think the two would be best of friends, and the way you had them interact perfectly showed why. Showing how their relationship would be after a year once they've really gotten used to each other personalities. Takemi accepting of Sadayo's romantic views and Sadayo used to her friends teases, even if she still fall for them on occasion. It shows how comfortable they are with one another when Sadayo cant share with here about her sexual experience with Akira.

My favorite moment has to be when Takemi's "You're better than that" talk, because it shows that not only does Sadayo trust her enough to talk to have talked to her about it, but also shows how much respect Takemi has for her. I loved how both proud, and seeming a bit embarrassed Takemi got at how she was playing the role of the "supportive friend", something she never saw herself doing. I think it's stuff like that why I really love her being such close friend with Akira and Sadayo. Just her wondering how someone like her ended up becoming so close to a couple of loving saps like them, and thus having to deal as the person to confide in for the two, though by this point she is probably used to it.

I also love how despite Sadayo is terrified, she is also excited. The moment of helplessness now long gone from their first encounter, and she wants to make sure that she is honest with his parents and still be able to see him, and maybe discussing at some point him moving to her place for college, considering that he's already done so.

One thing Takemi brings up that I'm also interested is the eventually reveal to his friends. As she puts it, Sadayo was the first to really hear about his arrival, and one has to wonder how the Phantom thief here will react when they find out. I'm sure it wont' be jsut one simple response, but a variety of opinions and thoughts on the matter. It certainly will be a thing to deal with and if Akira will be living with Sadayo it will probably come soon. And speaking of which this had me wondering about the time he faked his death and went into hiding. Did they know he was with Sadayo? if so what excuse did he give, and if not what did he tell them and what must they have been thinking that he went. it's situations like that, that make reading other's interpretation of the events so intriguing.

But I can't stay in this one scene forever, and I'll just end it with saying that the heart to heart Sadayo had with Tae at the end as she thanked her for being there was jsut heartwarming. It's alwasy a lovely feeling when we can see how much their lives have changed for the better thanks to Akira and how much she loves him and wishes to show it to his parents.

Now, with all of that out of the way, we have to discuss the meeting with his parents.

I appreciate the slow easing at first. Having her offer to make them coffee, both as a peaceful gesture, and showing how capable and trust sojiro has in her. I tend to feel the same way about how cooking can e relaxing and help calm one down. I'm sure Akira did so many of time, as did Sadayo during their time together while dating. Just taking the moment of silence to enjoy the brewing and let all thsoe worry take a backseat.

It was interesting seeing Sadayo stating how "Akira saved her" so early. Considering how little they knew of what happend, they must have been thinking how their son possibly saved her. Especially as they were talking about Kamoshida at the time. That was probably going to be her hardest time, and it shows. It probably held so many moments of regrets, so many small actions or gesture that knowing where she was know, kicks herself for having done. Even if she had her own problems during the time, it probably didn't help in her conscious.

The other big moment of contention as was hinted a couple of time would be her maid job, and it's not surprising considering his mother's reactions to her when they first saw her. It was no surprised that they would think she was a prostitute. Luckily time makes things a bit easier and although she dreaded it, she also was ready. The way she got flustered at discussing the fact that she gave massages was very cute, and I found it funny how she specified that they were platonic "At first" very much dropping a hint before fully coming clean that yeah, the two had done certain things. I did notice that she didn't' just talk about the two of them, but explained a few things about the metaverse and their actions as Phantom Thieves, probably the first big information for the couple as I can imagine Akira not bringing it up much.

One thing that I really love about this chapter is tat we get to see how the events played out in the past. So when the talked about the stuff with Sojiro's stove it had me with so many questions (not in a bad way, but more intrigued). Like I can guess that this was before they dated, so how much have that conversation gone. That must have Sojiro thought when Akira brought over his home room teacher to help with the stove and just the image of Sadayo working on it. moments like that providing a more full picture of the events, while still leaving space for more.

I appreciate hearing bout the events of the hospital and their encounter at school. how Akira was there for her. Always motivating her, reassuring her, showing her love and compassion and willing to fight for her. The moment that he held her after the Takeses threaten her was quite touching nad heartbreaking as I can imagine her broken in tear, probably only standing cause Akira held her so close. Th response that Sadayo gave "Akira happened" Felt so fitting, as he really did jsut came into people's lives and did everything he could to make sure their lives were for the better.

The rest was just a cute and adorable stutter. Sadayo nervously revealing how their confession went, about their dates and their time together, an her parent hanging on every word. kind of cute how she coudn't stop referring to him as her master, showing how that little aspect had become a playful part of their relationship. ending with her admitting that she still intends to see Akira, her love for him and that even if they refuse she still wants to be with him. Thankfully that wont' come to pass as they have given their blessing.

This was quite a chapter and a whole lot to unfold. But now that we got his parents acceptance we can move to see how things will progress with the two, now that one giant hurdle has been crossed. I'm surprised that Sadayo didn't' confirm that Takemi also knew of their relationship since she was brought up, but maybe that will be for a later discussion.

I look forward to the next chapter. and Thank you so much for all the effort you put into writing this.

Ey, that was quite a wonderful talk! Pretty neat emotional arc within it! Also, that part where everyone stutters gets a special mention, hahaha! XD

Now this was one hell of a good chapter to read, kudos!
BrazeRancor chapter 6 . 6/28
What a chapter! I have to admit the Kurusu’s have taken Kawakami’s admission of a physical relationship quite well, though I assume they’d have guessed it at this point.

I do hope you write some side stories or flashback of their time together at her apartment. It’s certainly a safer location than Leblanc in terms of one the record’ locations.

Thanks for the update, still loving the story.

God the character interaction in this story is *chef's kiss.* Love the reuniting scene with some of Akira's confidants. Sojiro and Kunihiro's familiarity with each other really adds to the fact that they're old friends. Thanks for the chapter I really look forward to the next one.

Darn you and your cliffhanger! but seriously another fun chapter. It was nice to finally start having Akira stand up for Sadayo, even if it wasn't the full story, that is saved for what's coming next. I think it was important that Akira told them that he is very much well aware of how risky and unlikely their relationship is, but he is still willing to go though with it. As they mentioned, they didn't raised an idiot, so their must be something in her he sees. That and the mention that it was Sadayo who was willing to wait probably led a trail for his parents to follow that should hopefully make things easier on Sadayo.

It's always nice when we get to see how the rest of the group have started to mingle thanks to Akira. Having Iwai at the coffee shop was a pleasant surprise, and it's not to see Mishima tagging along with both Futbaba and Kaoru once both got to school. And considering the games mention him going to Shujin, one can imagine that both have probably seen Sadayo.

As for the situation with Shujin, it is very true. Even without considering the situation of their relationship, the events that occurred to them alone would had made it that their relationship would be painted in the worst of light. Especially considering that at the time, Akira's reputation as a delinquent and criminal was in full force. One could only imagine if a teacher was found out to be with such a person. But it a sence, it also allowed for Sadayo to trully show her worth as a teacher once she managed to pull herself up again. It was a trial by fire of a sort to truly show how dedicated and loving of a teacher she could be to her students.

I've always loved how Sadayo and Akira's relationship formed, so it's always a treat to see how the rest of the cast would react to finding out, and next chapter is sure to bring some of that. So I can't wait.

I’m on the edge of my seat! This really is the Persona fanfic I’ve been hoping for, fantastic work!

I can’t wait for the next chapter! Keep it up!
TheTrueOverlordBear chapter 5 . 5/8
Great work developing all those threads from canon here, yo! Special mentions go the pondering over the implications of Sadayo's actions, the parts with Iwai and Kaoru, and of course, the thoughts of Sojiro, hahaha! And considering how it's Akira with his buddies next, I'm definitely looking forward to it!

Another great chapter I cannot wait for the next one!
BrazeRancor chapter 4 . 4/21
I’ve been hunting for a fix that actually takes the relationship between the two seriously. The few fics that involve the pairing usually sweep the less desirable elements of their relationship under the rug or ignore it entirely for empty fluff. You’ve not done that, in fact you’ve even made it more dramatic but having Akita’s parents be genuinely good people rather than non-entities, or even malicious if you subscribe to the theory that they ignored him for the duration of the events of P5.

Thanks for your hard work, can’t wait for the next chapter!
Lonely Support chapter 4 . 4/4
This was a very welcomed and appreciated chapter, in more ways than one. After how heated the argument went, it's nice to have both sides slowly calming down. Not only in their love for one another, but in understanding of the other sides. I liked how Sadayo was quite understanding at his parent's reactions of her, despite me disagreeing at the hooker comment Azumi made early on. Not only that, but her stealing her resolve to talk to them alone. It's obvious that Akira would support her, but she wanted to truly show his parents that this wasn't just a fleeting good time, and that she truly wishes to be with him. At the same time, I'm glad that Azumi and Kunihiro both realized their mistake. Yes, it's understandable that they be defensive and protective of their son, but they realized that what they saw was something meant to be private between the two being affectionate, and they let that instance of affection (as well as some past events) paint a picture of Sadayo that cause them to treat her harshly that even her older, and previously his teacher, deserved.

I can definitely see the comparison between the two. is amusing how Sadayo and Kunihiro had similar feeling. Sadayo with her feeling out of place in the hotel, while he felt out of place ini the meet up, and yet their partner hold them close and dont' let others get in the way. Likewise I couldn't help but chuckle when the mention of Azumi wearing a blu scarf, as I was reminded of the Red scarf Sadayo will eventually (or already) get. There was also the mention of sparks between the two couples. Both fleeting and long lasting. It was interesting how it was Sadayo the one that brought it up to Akira, and buth Azumi and Kunihior discussing it. It kind of shows that they very much think similarly on this.

You always do a great job at showing why I love the relationship Sadayo and Akira have, as it's one around supporting the other and always striving to be better. Akira always doing his best to be there for Sadayo, all the while admiring her and seeing the good in her. Meanwhile Sadayo not to let him overtake her, is working and growing to become someone who she can be to stand up for both herself and her boyfriend.

We still have a lot of question concerning the Kurusu's past experirennce that would have them so suspicious of Sadayo, despite knowing Akira being a capable person, not to mention that the fact that she called him master in particular seems to be a big hiccup for them, considering they mention it a number of times.

Things are definetly goign to be interesting, and this is jsut with Kurusu's parents, who knows how Sadayo's will go.

I look forward to the many talks as well as Sojiro's opinions as he looks very much to be dragged into it. And wonder how much will Sadayo reveal to prove her and Akira's spark is the real deal. If she will reveal everything, including the reason for his nickname to his parents. and how they will react considering past comments by them and the reality of her situation.

Thanks you again for your continued work with this story, and I eagerly (but patiently) wait for the next one.
TheTrueOverlordBear chapter 4 . 4/3
Now I'm excited for Sojiro's further involvement, hahaha! Lots of hoo boys to be had, then, huh? Makes me curious about how Kunihiro and Azumi will take Futaba as well, though that's probably way off-topic already for this story, so yeah.
yomunot chapter 4 . 4/3
Man that library part was absolutely lovely. Really looking forward to the talk next chapter. The characters in this fic are all so developed and have their own traits that either differentiate from each other or link them together. Even the side character of Flore sticks out as her own person. Thanks for the chapter I look forward to the next update!
Lonely Support chapter 3 . 3/14
This was a very intense chapter and quite a ride to read. It was definetly a new side to see Akira look so horrified, of the whole tings. Goes to show that sometime your own family can be scarier than any god out there.

You have to wonder what it looks lik to a parents. Here is your son, acting very intimate with this flirtations older woman that has her hands all over him and hearing her call him master. Their are going to be so many questions rushing through their mind, and only made worse when they find out she was his teacher.

But even with all of that, Akira's mother's reaction clearly seem to be cause by something much more than what was in front of him. Feel like there are some old wounds on her end that leaad her to act so much more harshly to Sadayo than she already would. and seems like it's something the father is aware of as well. I have my theories on the matter, and look forward to seeing how they play out with both sides learning more about one another.

I do apperciate how despite how scared they were, Sadayo and Akira still did their best to stand up for one another, especilly when His mother's choice word of Sadayo went way out of hand. Something that he knows hurt her a lot more because of what she went through.

Well for now it seems like the parents are at least willing to hear them out rather than split them off immediatly, but it's obvious that it will not be an easy road.

I look forward to the next chapter and to see how Akira and Sadayo plan to explain things to his parents. As well as their reaction when finding out how their relationship started.
