I just realized the perfect party for Shirou's personality first of course is Aegislash given its the Pokemon version of Excalibur, black kyurem given its an empty husk filled with ideals and of course the 4 swords of Justice given the obvious bits of Shirou's personality

I came into this expecting nothing, especially when I saw that Shirou was a version of him that was a Pokèmon Trainer, but I'm actually enjoying this. Lillie travelling with her Dad is fucking adorable, and I'm curious as to what Legendary he has on his belt. I'm guessing Rayquaza or one of the Kalos trio because you said they had duties, so it couldn't be Kanto Pokèmon, and the only legendary in Hoenn that has duties is Rayquaza.

... Is wrong from me to imagine him as Detroit Emiya ? More older, more... suit fitting I dunno.

Wait, Kiritsugu Emiya is alive in this timeline? Then how did Shirou get adopted? Did he have a different sort of disaster in his childhood and was rescued/adopted by Kiritsugu? Apparently, it was something that still shaped Shirou's desire to become a hero, but wasn't something that killed Kiritsugu. Did he still cause the disaster in the first place (granted that canon Kiritsugu only did it to avoid the apocalypse)? I can imagine Kiritsugu trying to change/save the world only to cause a disaster and saving Shirou.

Also, what kind of person would a Kiritsugu who hadn't suffered the tragedy of 4th grail war even be like? If he's had similar traumatic experiences (Shirley, his father, Natalia) without the 4th war, he'd still be an emotionless arbiter of death who weighs only the number of human lives, and wouldn't have adopted Shirou. But if he's never faced those hardships, his ideals of heroism would differ greatly, nor would it likely have been passed down to Shirou.

I'm curious and hopeful the author deals with these issues well, but I think this underlies the problem of having known characters and changing their backgrounds. People are results of both nurture and nature, and by changing the environment of their upbringing, it naturally changes them. But then one runs the risk of essentially creating a whole new, different person who just happens to share a name with an existing character.
