This whole chapter has good world building and storytelling. And tension too, cause I'm excited to see Brynhildr again!

Nice to get Ephraim's perspective and finding out Daniel is alive.

Glad to see you're still alive and kicking despite the state of the world. Strangely fitting for Emma to be in a weird sad place but still able to laugh and smile.

I like how Emma is mich more knowledgeable in Jehannan culture than the last book. Makes for interesting circumstances, especially with Joshua, who is as audacious as heck.

And did we just get a hint of Brynhilder!? Nice!

Joshua is une of the best written Navaire achertype characters, alongside wit Ayra, Felix and Zirrak

As always, this was a great read. However, since you've introduced zombie children, my brain goes to the undead from Game of Thrones, which were pretty terrifying to me. By the way, what class is Emma? Or is she a trainee right now? Anyway, this was a fantastic chapter, and I look forward to more. Stay safe out there!

To be honest, I don't whether Emma is just naive, ignorant, or just biased. Soldiers know the risk of being killed when they enlist, civilans don't. With her mother being mercenary, I don't understand how Emma doesn't get that. And during war, the choice is always to follow the orders, no matter how morally ambiguous, and hope the orders will end the war faster in your side's favor, or risk insubordination that can threaten your family and the whole country. For soldiers, killing is their craft, blood is their currency, at least that's how it's described in schools here though that's an oversimplification. Anyway, looking forward for the next chapter. (Joshua should be debuting there, right?)
