Tony McNucklz chapter 3 . 7/30/2019
A good start, certainly a story with potential.
That being said, you seem to be in danger of falling into the battery fallacy. The idea that powerful wizards are powerful because they are born to a certain power level and through certain rituals can have a higher power level. like an HP version of Dragon Ball Z. DBZ fails for me as inauthentic to the idea of character struggle, and especially conflict. When your story comes down to having the fights decided by the size of a 'magical core', it in fact reinforces the idea that power is born, that blood matters, rather than the idea that one can overcome obstacles and advance oneself through discipline, self control, and dedication to a goal. also, where is the 'magic core'? is it behind the liver? hiding in the gallbladder? does it make a noise when it's low like a stomach? I've always found the 'magic core' crap on this site trying and ill-considered. it tracks better for me that magic exists in the world, and that wizardkind can manipulate it through the use of a wand, rather then pushing it out of themselves like some sort of personally oozed cosmic-altering secretion.
