It really bothers me that Sam would ever doubt or has ever doubted that he is a good man - when he so obviously is so very good. Same for Dean. They may be "the boys" to a lot of us but they are of course both such good men - I don't want to see either of them being plagued by doubts. It's not that they aren't capable of mistakes or that they should never reflect on things that have happened so that they might learn more from them... but they need to keep perspective. They really do sacrifice and put themselves on the line for greater good, fighting the good fight in the best way they know how as each moment/decision comes along. Anyway I do think your fic here has provided one very nice way to address the point.

Very interesting story set at a crucial time in the show and all the uncertainty between the boys at that time. I have to say, the duppy was a new one to me - thought it was a typo at first. LOL. But I really liked the concept of the "earthly soul/good soul" and what could happen when they split. And honestly, it makes so much more sense than people walking around without a soul like in the show. Also loved the call-back in the last sentence of the story to the last thing that Sam saw in his brother's eyes now, contrasted with what he saw earlier when he disappeared. Great job! this was good! A little confusing and parts but overall a very good read. here's a touch of constructive criticism: I grew up in New England, spent the first twenty years of my life up there, and grinders are called subs up there. Ironically, I've also heard them called Hoagies once in a great while, but never grinders. Take it or leave it, but for authenticity sake, I thought you might want to know. take care and keep writing!

Holy Moly! That was intense! Sam disappearing from Dean's sight always remind me "The Benders" and "All Hell Breaks Loose Part 1". That's terrifying. About what Dean said about Sam soul, it remind me what Bobby said to Dean about Sam in season 5 "Look, Sam's got a...Darkness in him. I'm not saying he don't. But he's got a hell of a lot of good in him, too."

Very cool MoW, and awesome brother moments. I love the idea that Sam might have been the Righteous Man they'd intended to go to Hell. The one who starts it all being the one to end it. Very, very cool. Great fic. Thanks for sharing.

This could easily have been an excellent episode of the show. I can see it clearly in my mind. There are so many wonderful details, like Dean grabbing Sam's shirts to haul him up, that are fondly familiar. Thank you for another terrific story!
